Auburn, a city rich in culture and history, lies at the junction of NYS Routes 5 & US Route 20, south of NYS Thruway (I-90) Interchange 40 on NYS Route 34. The recreational facilities of Owasco Lake in Auburn are but one of the factors that have made Auburn inviting to visitors. Emerson Park offers swimming beaches, boat launches, picnic facilities, a playground, a disc golf course, a restored pavilion and sea wall. Also on the grounds is the newly expanded Merry-Go-Round Playhouse, which brings "Broadway to the Finger Lakes" each summer. The South Street National Register Historic District includes over 200 buildings reflecting the gracious atmosphere of an earlier century. One of the many magnificent homes is Seward House, home to William H. Seward, Secretary of State under Lincoln and Johnson. The Harriet Tubman Home is also located on Route 34. Auburn's Willard Memorial Chapel is the only complete, unaltered Tiffany chapel known to exist. The Cayuga Museum & Case Research Lab is where sound film was invented. The Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center exhibits fine arts from regional and national artists, and presents an international quilt show annually. Auburn Public Theater downtown offers a gallery, black box comedy, theater, music and dance productions. Falcon Park is home to the Auburn Doubledays, a Class A professional baseball team in the NY-Penn League that has games mid-June through August. And for anglers and hunters, the Fingerlakes Mall on Routes 5 & 20 has NY State's first Bass Pro Shops Sportsman's Center.
