New York's Great Lake Getaway, Wayne County is the place to explore the past, reconnect with nature, and restore your soul.
With the Erie Canal along the south, and Lake Ontario bordering the north, the opportunities for water recreation abound. Relax on the beach, enter a fishing derby, or rent a kayak to journey down the canal. The county also has opportunities for skiing, golfing, or touring.
The scenery is lovely and varied. Charming villages streets will greet you, and our waterways will enchant you. Wayne County is the nation's second largest producer of apples, so you will be sure to find plenty of orchards and u-pick farms. The county is also home to Chimney Bluffs State Park, whose majestic cliffs will remind you of the southwest, until you see the lake below.
Wayne County is also home to many museums, and historic sites. The county was the birth place of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Many Mormon historic sites can be found around the village of Palmyra, and every year it hosts the Hill Cumorah Pageant, one of the oldest outdoor pageants in the country.
