The “Forgotten” War of 1812 comes to life in our Historic Village as more than one hundred re-enactors portray shopkeepers, housewives, merchants and soldiers amidst the early 19th-century sounds of fifes and drums, cannons and muskets, and English country dancing. The weekend is devoted to activities that recall those early years when the United State as a newly minted nation, still looking to the customs of its former empire while yet establishing its own identity, entered a new century. Reenactors will offer insight into the impact of the conflict on Western New York during this period.

The years surrounding the War of 1812, known as the Regency Era, was the time of that countrified culture explore in the popular works of Jane Austen. Re-enactors will model fashions reflecting lifestyles during this period, and we highlight popular entertainments of the day with musical performances by Old Fort Niagara, a dance demonstrations by the Country Dancers of Rochester, and much more!
