Auburn, NY- Meet Me in St. Louis has charmed audiences for years and is now making its way to the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse. Based on the classic MGM motion picture, the timeless show includes many memorable musical numbers including The Boy Next Door, The Trolley Song, and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.
This heartwarming tale joins the Smith family as all of St. Louis is in a giddy state of anticipation about the opening 1904 World’s Fair. The story centers around the teenage Smith sisters, Esther and Rose and follows their adventures as they look high and low for the young men. As the plot unfolds there is one beautiful musical number after another. Producing Director Ed Sayles says that “ this may be the most beautiful show that we’ve ever done at the MGR, it will be a treat for the eye as well as the ear”.
Starring as Esther Smith, the role originated by Judy Garland in the MGM film, is Kimberly Burns, last seen in MGR’s Thoroughly Modern Millie as the title role. Syracuse University student Sarah O’Conner makes her debut with Merry-Go-Round as Rose Smith. Also returning this season, Megan Thomas, who played Mrs. Meers in MGR’s Thoroughly Modern Millie, is cast in the role of Katie, the Smith’s uproariously funny Irish maid, Katie.
Over seeing this cast of over 30, is veteran director and choreographer Kate Swan who is directing her fifth Merry-Go-Round production. Musical Director, Corinne Aquilina, is back for her 18th production with MGR following her successful run with the first show of the season, The Drowsy Chaperone.
