Destination: Keuka Lake, N.Y.

Dawn was just starting to sneak up on New York's Keuka Lake as I stood on the large dock at the Snug Harbor Inn, waiting for my fishing guide. I had just spent the night there, a three-tiered Victorian restaurant and inn built in 1890. Hoping to capture some fishing mojo, I had a wonderful salmon dinner the night prior on the balcony overlooking Keuka.

As my guide eased up to the dock, he asked if I had been waiting long.

Twenty-five years, I thought, because that's how long it had been since I last fishe...

To March Break and Beyond! I’ll be honest, despite living in Southern Ontario my whole life, I had never heard about the Finger Lakes region of Upstate NY.  If it wasn’t for the wonderful people at Holiday Valley in Ellicottville, NY, where we had our amazing ski adventure last year, I would probably have not been introduced to this gem of a destination, only a three to four hour drive from the GTA. The locals raved about all the things for us to see and do there, especially for families – so many thi...

I woke up at 4:45a this morning, dressed in the warmest clothes I own and headed for Dundee, NY-1.5 hours from my home.  I volunteered to help Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard disgorge their sparkling wine.

Here are the necessary components:

1.) Freezing cold weather, i.e. today in Dundee, NY 19 degrees

2.) Sparkling wine that has been riddled so yeast sediment is ready for expulsion

3.) Willing, able, strong minded volunteers, approximately 12

I showed up to 11 smiling faces, so happy to have a 12th ...

The Experience of Aurora

The blog-front has been a little too quiet here, lately, but fortunately that means good things for the programming, events, and all of the activity and energy at the Inns of Aurora. The past month or so has been especially busy, and sometimes (thanks to the weather!) it feels as though summer is coming early this year! However, that’s the way we like it. Between last weekend’s two events, The Ithaca Beer Lunch, and our annual Easter Brunch Buffet, the Inns have all been b...
