Summer Means Fishing on the Finger Lakes

July 19th, 2010

BloIt’s summertime in the Finger Lakes, and for my family, that means Dad is just itching to get out on a lake with his fishing pole in the water. When I look out on Seneca Lake, I am inevitably reminded of the many excursions of the past.

From my youngest years, I can remember Dad taking us to Lodi Point State Park where we could fish right off the shore. Dad was always so excited that we couldn’t help catching onto the thrill of reeling in “the big one” in (which, for us kids, meant the tiny fish that co...

A Night of Wonder and Excitement in Watkins Glen

July 15th, 2010

I can’t imagine a better place to be than the Finger Lakes over the Fourth of July weekend. Every year my family drives to Watkins Glen to watch the fireworks as they shoot off over Seneca Lake from Clute Park. Knowing what a spectacular display it is, I was eagerly anticipating the night of wonder and exhilaration that I knew was coming until I found out that I had to work the night of the fireworks. I was immensely disappointed, but I accepted fate.

However, my mom surprised me at the end of my shift and...

Everyone has Fun at the Corning Museum of Glass!

July 14th, 2010

Last Sunday, my boyfriend and I, along with our moms, decided it was time to venture to Corning and visit the famed Corning Museum of Glass. None of us had ever been before and we did not think it was going to be very large. Needless to say, when we arrived, we were greatly surprised! We spent almost eight hours at the museum and I am certain there are still things that we missed. I was fascinated at the multiple glassblowing, making, and breaking demonstrations that were taking place throughout the day. Th...

A Day in the Finger Lakes

February 15th, 2010

As a photographer wannabe I love to discover new things to photograph and new ways to photograph them. Recently I have discovered that there is a world of beauty inside the petals of a flower or hidden in the tiny imperfections of a rock. That Macro setting some of you are discovering on your new digital cameras enable you to get right in close to the tiny bouquet of miniature yellow flowers lined up on the stem of a simple golden rod that grows in every field of the Northeast. It’s kind of like a hid...

Summers on Keuka Lake

July 1st, 2009

In my family, summer can only mean one thing: heading to Keuka Lake.  Although I’m originally from Corning, my family and I have spent the past several summers living at the lake. With summer officially beginning this Sunday, I am ready and excited for another fun season in the area.

One of my favorite things about the lake is being out on the water. In particular, my family and I enjoy different kinds of boating activities. For example, my younger brother loves to sail and has participated in several...
