This past Sunday morning, one of my roommates and I decided to take the most recent addition to our family, a sweet tempered mutt named Bru, for a run around the neighborhood. We bundled up because we expected the temperature to match the gloomy sky and cold weather from the past week. To our surprise, however, the weather was far from chilly. Despite the gloom from up above, the contrast of the psychedelic leaves picked up our spirits.
We ran to a small park and attempted to play catch with Bru, but the new smells and squirrels proved too much for his already easily distracted personality. On the way back we decided to take it slow and walk. The sidewalks were covered in pale and bright yellows, lime greens, fire reds, and bright oranges. The colors swirled together, like those on the palette of an artist. At that moment I was genuinely amazed by the possibilities of nature.
I stopped and picked up two gorgeous leaves. Both were so saturated with color that the excess seemed to drip from each of the leaves’ three corners. The outside of the leaves were trimmed with a crimson red that seeped towards the vibrant orange center, imitating the backdrop of a tropical sunset. Kicking up the leaves as Bru pranced back forth among them reminded me of fall afternoons I spent jumping in and out of leaf piles with siblings and friends.
Fall is a unique season, and the weather is anywhere from brisk or chilly to dreary or warm. The traditions are memorable and are anticipated at the beginning of every fall season. Sadly, it is easy to miss out on such fleeting moments. As we get older time becomes this precious or spiteful possession that we are constantly dividing up, wasting, and trying to obtain more of. We therefore tend to forget about the simple pleasures in life like a unique fall day. Before another season passes, enjoy at least one moment this fall that will bring back memories and feelings of this brilliant season.
