Working as an intern for the Finger Lakes Tourism Alliance has given me new perspective on all of the places that I have ever visited while living in the Finger Lakes region. Places that I used to drive by without a second glance, because of their familiarity, now stick out to me. Everyday, I drive through Montour Falls, Watkins Glen, Dundee, and Penn Yan and am struck with the beauty that all of these towns have to offer.

One of the most delightful spots that I drive through is Watkins Glen, specifically when I pass by the Watkins Glen Falls. Every time I see it, I am once again amazed by the majesty and power of the water rushing over itself. The beauty and tranquility of the scene go beyond description. This place is honestly one of those sites that you have to see for yourself to fully understand the splendor of it.

As I drive by, I relive the many memories that I experienced there throughout my childhood. I remember, as a little girl, sitting on my dad’s shoulders as my aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents walked together up the incline. Later, I traveled with friends as we laughed, raced, and snapped pictures. Most trips ended with a walk to the Olympic-size pool just down the trail from the gorge in the state park. I have hiked the gorge trail at least half a dozen times, yet I still have a strong desire to do it again.

Living in the Finger Lakes has given me many opportunities to discover beautiful and exciting new things but also gives me the opportunity to relive the memories daily.
