The weather is getting warmer and soon the water will be too. There is no better place to enjoy the water than in the beautiful Finger Lakes, a region named for its abundant freshwater. The Finger Lakes is home to eleven lakes that are scattered throughout the region. No matter where you are staying in the Finger Lakes you are bound to be close to one of them. The eleven pristine lakes are Conesus, Hemlock, Canadice, Honeoye, Canandaigua, Keuka, Seneca, Cayuga, Owasco, Skaneateles, and Otisco; along with numerous other lakes, rivers, cannels, canals, waterfalls, ponds and more.
Any of these fresh water areas are perfect for water activities, whether it’s simply lounging around on an inflatable raft or water skiing behind a boat. Some activities that can be enjoyed are:
- Swimming
- Water polo
- Snorkeling
- Diving
- Water skiing
- Jet skiing
- Wakeboarding
- Windsurfing
- Tubing
- Boating
- Canoeing
- Kayaking
- Rafting
- Sailing
- Fishing
Every summer I look forward to splashing around in Keuka, Seneca and Canandaigua Lakes. These lakes are all easily accessible and only a half hour or less from my home in Penn Yan. My favorite activity in these lakes is tubing. It is exhilarating being towed behind a boat on a tube. Holding on for dear life, riding over the waves, and making sharp turns all make the experience a thrill.
If you are going to be in the Finger Lakes region make sure you bring your bathing suit and experience at least one of these exciting activities in one of our beautiful lakes.
