Spring can be such a fun time for people of all ages. The extra hour of daylight and warm sunshine makes everyone want to get outside. Outdoor activities are a great way to have fun in the warm, breezy spring weather.

    * Going for a walk, taking a bike ride, or going for a hike are all simple, fun ways to enjoy the weather with a friend. My boyfriend and I really enjoy going for romantic walks and hikes on beautiful sunny days. Our favorite spot to go hiking is Sugar Creek in Branchport. The natural beauty of the rocks, water, and land is magnificent. We have a great time jumping from rock to rock as the cool water rushes between our toes on a hot spring day.
    * Picnics and BBQs are great ways to bring family and friends together for a meal. You can either pack a lunch to take with you or you can cook right outside. You can have a picnic right in your yard or at a near by park. Every year in the late spring my family has a family reunion on Cayuga Lake at the state park. We have delicious chicken BBQ right there on the beach under the pavilion.
    * Tie dye involves lots of messy fun and outside is the perfect place for it. Get a group of people together and spend the day outside coloring tee shirts, shorts, socks, and anything that once was white. At my freshman orientation at Monroe Community College all the students made tie dye tee shirts outside in the court yard. It was so much and I still wear the tee shirt I made.
    * Spring is also the perfect time for gardening, so start planting your flowers and vegetables now. For example, a salsa garden can be fun; simply plant tomatoes and herbs. By the end of the season, you can take what you grew and make it into salsa to go with a nice Mexican dish. My mother has a vegetable garden that I help her with. It’s fun and always rewarding eating something that you helped grow.
    * Everyone knows that springtime can be a windy season, so why not fly a kite? A windy day is a perfect day to watch a colorful kite soar through the sky above the trees. When I was younger, my cousin and I always used to love flying kites at local park.
    * And you can’t forget ice cream! Spring is the time when all the ice cream stores open back up for business. A cool ice cream cone can be very soothing on a warm, sunny day. Seneca Farms in Penn Yan is well known for its ice cream and fried chicken. I love Seneca Farms’ homemade ice cream and waffle cones. Delicious!

Spring offers a wide range of activities for people that want to get active or for people that just want to relax.
