Farm to Table, Friends, and Outdoor Adventures in the Finger Lakes -- July 2014

Farm to Table, Table to Mouth, DELISH!

Looking for the next incredible meal to post a photo of on your Instagram account?! Get up to the Finger Lakes region to learn all about how freshness and the farm to table movement beats ingredients out of a can, box, or bag, ANY day!

With some serious eats to be served up and discovered, there’s variety galore in the Finger Lakes region. Farm to table can’t get any fresher than along the Finger Lakes Cheese Trail where local dairies offer tours and tasty samples of fresh made havarti, chevre, and cheddar. Now that’s gouda!

If you’re looking for a traditional meal with a fresh flare, don’t miss stops at Americana Vineyards and Winery & Crystal Lake Café for one of the best meals along the wine trail.

When along the wine trail, you can’t forget to eat or those small samples of wine add up quick! Fox Run Vineyards and Café serves up a mean cheese board paired with your favorite wine and Belhurst Castle has casual and fine dining right on site to pair with one of their wines as well! Ventosa Vineyards Café Toscana is the place for Italian fare along the Seneca Lake wine trail and for a meal with a breathtaking view of Keuka Lake, stop at the Blue Heron Café at Heron Hill Winery. The Ginny Lee Restaurant at Wagner Vineyards and Brewery will offer you cool refreshment with a delicious farm to table meal.

Afternoon tea or coffee sound like it will hit the spot? Don’t miss a stop to the Finger Lakes Tea Company while getting your shopping fix at Waterloo Premium Outlets. If a more caffeinated fix is in need, the Ithaca Bakery and Ithaca Coffee Company offer a great cup of Joe alongside a bakery treat. A little further north of Ithaca in King Ferry is the Man in the Moon Bake Shoppe & Café. With a dessert display like none other to end a great sandwich, you’ll find your stomach grumbling sooner rather than later.

Hiking, Biking, Boating, and Fishing Galore

Before You Know It Leaf Peeping Season Will Be Here

The official half way point of the 2014 year is here and past and that means that right around the bend, cooler temperatures will be upon us, the smell of pressed grapes will be in the air, and the leaves on trees and grapevines will turn brilliant hues of yellows, oranges, and red.

Come explore the Finger Lakes after the kids have gone back to school, things have quieted down, but businesses here in the region still have TONS to offer.

Mid-week visits at local Finger Lakes wineries will offer an expansive selection of wines to taste, a personalized one on one conversation at the tasting bar, and even a tasting/tour with a winery owner or winemaker if you inquire. On vineyard tours in the fall, you’ll see grapes being pressed, where the magic of fermentation happens that turns grape juice in to award winning wines. Visit a Finger Lakes Winery, Brewery, or Micro-distillery this fall!

If you’re looking for the most up to date happenings of what is peaking for foliage this season, be sure to keep an eye out on the I Love NY website. I Love NY will cover leaf peeping all across New York State so no matter where you are, you’ll see brilliant, beautiful colors.
