Beauty and Fun in One!

Are you a nature lover? Explore the waterfalls in the Finger Lakes that provide spectacular views and outdoor adventures. Make it a memorable day trip or take advantage of the state park’s campgrounds for a fun filled weekend trip. Start planning your visit now! By mid May all of the trails will be open for visitors! Check out this list of must see state parks and falls in the Finger Lakes:

*Buttermilk Falls State Park is located southwest of Cayuga Lake. Buttermilk Falls are 180 feet high and 80 feet wide giving it stunning views you won’t want to miss! Buttermilk consists of ten falls and the best trail to take to view all of these is the gorge trail. This trail is approximately a mile and half loop and drops well over 500 feet from the top to the bottom; so make sure you have on your hiking shoes. It’s a work out but it is definitely 100% worth it! Also, for some additional fun take a dip in the water at bottom of the falls to refresh yourself after your long hike.

*Taughannock Falls State Park is located in Trumansburg on Cayuga Lake. These falls are the closest of any Finger Lakes gorges to being a canyon. The falls are three stories higher than Niagara Falls and are the highest freefalling falls in the northeastern United States! The best views of the 215 feet high falls are on the gorge trail which will take you to the very bottom of falls looking up or at the overlook off of Park Road which will take you to the very top looking down. The gorge trail is ¾ mile one way and is on flat, wide land so it is good for children and pets.

*Watkins Glen State Park is located at the south end of Seneca Lake and includes 19 different waterfalls. Explore the gorge trail going through tunnels, over bridges and underneath falls! Make sure you have your sneakers on because this trail includes 832 steps and is a three mile loop! Also, pack you swimming suits to enjoy the Olympic sized swimming pool just off of the trail.
