Finger Lakes wine had an excellent month in February. Dr. Konstantin Frank Vinifera Wine Cellars won their third consecutive award for their Riesling. Their 2013 Riesling Reserve was named Riesling Champion at the International Eastern Wine Competition, one of the oldest and largest wine competitions in the United States. Dr. Frank Wines previously received the highest honors for their Dr. Frank 2013 Semi-Dry Riesling at the San Francisco Chronicle Competition and the Florida State Fair International Competition.
Casa Larga Vineyards receives honors for their white wines at several international competitions. Casa Larga Vineyards won awards at the Beverage Tasting Institute Northeast Regional Wine Review and the 2015 Florida State Fair International Competition for four of their six Chardonnays. In an area that is known for its Rieslings, Hosmer Winery prides itself in being primarily a Chardonnay maker and is one of few in the Finger Lakes that produce six types of the varietal.
The accolades don’t stop there! Hosmer Winery received high marks from Wine Enthusiast for six of their wines and their 2013 Riesling and 2013 Chardonnay received “Best Buy” honors.
Fox Run Vineyards also had reason to celebrate last month, celebrating their 25th anniversary in March. Fox Run’s owner, Scott Osborn, purchased the land and planted its first vines in 1984, opening the doors six years later, in 1990. When the land was purchased, Fox Run Vineyards was one of only 14 wineries on Seneca Lake and one of only 36 in the Finger Lakes.
