For all the theater lovers, April is a great time to visit the Finger Lakes. From April 12-16, “Matilda the Musical” will be showing at the Rochester Broadway Theater League. Based on Roald Dahl’s classic tale, this show is widely popular and perfect for all families. Also showing from April 8-10 and 15-17 is “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike” in the Elmira Little Theater. The award-winning comedy tells the story of two middle-aged sisters and their arguments with their third, movie-star sister, Masha and her boyfriend, Spike!
Feeling the need for speed? Come check out the opening weekend at Watkins Glen International (WGI) Race Track on April 16-17. They’ve updated the track with new pavement and are letting YOU get behind the wheel. For $25, you’ll get to drive your own car around the twists of the newly paved track for three laps following an official WGI vehicle. All proceeds will benefit local charities.
One of the most popular events of the season, the Spring Wine and Cheese Weekend is coming soon! From April 22 - 24, the Seneca Lake Wine Trail has gathered over 30 wineries around Seneca Lake to offer you wine and cheese samples in your own self-guided tour. For $40, you’ll have access to a wide range of wines and their diverse food pairings. Get a group together soon because tickets sell fast!
Throughout April, the Strong National Museum of Play is offering the “Best of the Fest”, a screening of award-winning educational short films selected by the Rochester International Children’s Film Festival. After you’ve taken your child to these screenings, explore the large interactive exhibits of play, as these film screenings are included in general admission for the month of April.

The Seneca Lake Wine Trail’s annual program of wine and food events features a brand new single-day experience called Veggies & Varietals, taking place on May 7. This event, like all Wine Trail events, embraces increasingly popular wine and cuisine styles, showcasing the bounty Seneca Lake Wine Trail members have to offer. As the name Veggies & Varietals suggests, all dishes offered will be 100% vegetarian, though not necessarily vegan, but those of any diet inclination are encouraged to attend! Participating wineries will feature recipes created with zero meat products that pair with the cool-climate wines the Finger Lakes is internationally lauded for.
