Canandaigua, NY (December 11, 2017), After having the earliest start to a season on November 11, 2017 since 1991, Bristol Mountain is pleased to announce that we will be reopening on Tuesday, December 12, 2017. Upper and Lower Rocket trails and the Comet Express lift will be open for intermediate and advanced level skiers and snowboarders from 9am-4pm.
“We were able to sneak in six days of fun skiing and snowboarding in beginning on November 11th for the earliest opening since 1991.”, states, Drew Broderick, Sales & Marketing Director. “There is a winter advisory in effect from 10pm Monday night through 1pm on Wednesday so our guests will be very excited to have some natural powder to play on. Winter is officially here for all of the snowsports enthusiasts in the Rochester and Finger Lakes Region, exclaimed, Broderick. The Bristol Mountain Snowmaking Team will continue to make snow and build out trails as long as conditions permit.
This is the 54th winter season for Bristol Mountain which opened in 1964 with snowmaking capabilities and lighted trails. Bristol Mountain has 35 trails with the longest being two miles in length. They have the steepest vertical rise between the Adirondacks and the Rockies. Currently six former Bristol Mountain Freestyle Style Team members, known as the “Bristol Mountain Super Six”, are competing on the US Ski & Snowboard Freestyle Team. All have hopes of making the US Winter Olympic Freestyle Team which would allow them to compete in South Korea in February. These Rochester area athletes are: Jonathon Lillis (Aerials), Morgan Schild (Moguls), Chris Lillis (Aerials), Dylan Walczyk (Moguls), Harrison Smith (Aerials) and Patrick O’ Flynn (Aerials). Bristol Mountain continues to invest in mountain improvements. “Improvements to enhance this season include the widening and added a new drop in point on Upper Universe, transitioning the rental department to a scanning system and other interval improvements that will improve internal operations. We are looking forward to an outstanding season!”, says, Bristol Mountain, General Manager, Dan Fuller.
The opening of the Night Season will be announced as soon as the schedule has been set. Bristol Mountain has decided to extend the hours of operation on New Year’s Eve, Sunday, December 31st, until 10pm followed by the annual torchlight parade from the top of Rocket Trail to the bottom plus a spectacular fireworks display by Young Explosives.
Future announcements will be made when a date for the opening of the Snowsports School is available. New this season in the Snowsports School will be a $59 First Timer Learn to Ski and Learn to Snowboard Package for ages 13 and older, it includes the lift ticket, rentals and lessons. The lesson component includes a two hour first timer lesson in the morning and a second follow up two hour lesson that afternoon.
