Calling All Baking Enthusiasts - Submit Your Design Application for Third Annual Gingerbread Invitational at the Rockwell Museum

Sep 25th, 2017

Corning, NY, September 25, 2017 – The Rockwell Museum is pleased to announce the Third Annual Gingerbread Invitational − a fun, artful gingerbread competition with a focus on landmarks and architecture of Corning and the surrounding region.

The Rockwell invites chefs, bakeries, and pastry enthusiasts to enter their innovative design for the chance to be featured in this holiday exhibition. Up to 13 submissions will be selected to be featured in The Gingerbread Invitational. Each artist will then have approximately one month to create their design and drop it off at The Rockwell Museum on November 20, 2017.

The exhibition will be open to the public November 24, 2017 through December 31, 2017. A panel of judges will announce three winners, who will be honored at the Gingerbread Invitational Awards Ceremony, to be held November 30, 2017. Then, throughout the holiday season, visitors to The Rockwell will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite creation - the winner of the Community Choice Award will be announced in early January.

Willa Vogel, Project Manager of the Gingerbread Invitational said, “As much as it pains me to encourage holiday creep, the deadline to apply is right around the corner! Last year’s contest really set the bar high for another great competition this year – I can’t wait to see even more creativity.”

In 2016, community voters echoed the judges’ sentiments, choosing “Mark Twain Study” as the exhibition favorite. The group of friends, including Ann Cady, Colleen McCall, and Martha Easton, also won the Judges’ Choice First Prize in the competition. Their stunning gingerbread recreation of the iconic Elmira landmark featured cookie stonework, jellybean roof trimming, and several lounging cats sculpted from modeling chocolate, in honor of Mark Twain’s love of animals.

Individuals and groups interested in being part of the Gingerbread Invitational Exhibition should submit their design applications by October 6, 2017. Entry forms and competition rules can be found at www.rockwellmuseum.org/gingerbread
