Jan 23rd, 2018

Corning’s Gaffer District is accepting applications for New York Main Street Grant funding to support building renovation projects on Market Street between Wall Street and Bridge Street in Corning, NY.

The purpose of the NYMS Program is to provide financial resources to help New York communities with their main street/downtown revitalization efforts, to preserve significant historic buildings and provide an environment that attracts new business investment.  The program is intended to stimulate reinvestment in “main street” buildings to address issues of coding compliance, energy conservation, accessibility, and to provide affordable housing and job opportunities.

Corning’s Gaffer District has received a grant award of $188,610 to fund five major building renovation projects that will result in first-floor commercial space renovations and upper story housing development.  The maximum grant award per project is $50,000 per building, and all grants are a minimum of a dollar-for-dollar match.  In addition, all grants are reimbursement grants, and grants, and therefore the property owner is responsible for securing 100% match of the project financing and then requesting reimbursement upon successful project completion.  All projects must be completed no later than December 1, 2019.

The deadline for receipt of an Initial Application form is 4:30 PM on Friday, March 9th, 2018.  The initial Application Form and Program Guidelines are available in the offices of Corning’s Gaffer District located at 114 Pine Street, Suite 201, Corning, NY 14830.  The office is open Monday - Friday, 9 AM - 5 PM.  Application materials can be obtained at Corning’s Gaffer District Offices or by calling Kristen Stewart at (607) 937-6292 or email kristen@gafferdistrict.com.

A mandatory Pre-Application Information Workshop will be held at 8:30 AM on Friday, February 9th.  The workshop will take place at 114 Pine Street, 2nd Floor Conference Room, Corning, NY.  Information regarding the program guidelines and application process will be provided.  The Initial Application Form and Program Guidelines will be distributed.  Persons interested in applying to the program and urged to attend.
