Annual Tourism Institute Presented by Finger Lakes Tourism Alliance

(Penn Yan , NY - February 22, 2006) Finger Lakes Tourism Alliance will present its fourth Tourism Institute on April 4-6, 2006 at the Inn on the Lake, Canandaigua, New York . During this three-day program, participants will have an opportunity to take part in workshops led by nationally known professionals in the tourism field, including:

  • Holly Frederickson, of SuperHost®, will lead the Customer Service training sessions focusing on "Solving Problems through Service" along with "Service across Cultures" aimed at preparing frontline staff for the increasing numbers of international visitors to the Finger Lakes .
  • Berkeley Young, President of Young Strategies, Inc., will be back for his fourth year. "Top Ten Tourism Trends for 2006" is always a top-rated session.
  • A.J. Jordan, New Media Director of Web Studio, will speak on e-mail marketing campaigns and technology trends in the travel industry.
  • Erik Wolf, President and CEO of International Culinary Tourism Association, will be leading Thursday's program about how to capitalize on the growing interest in Culinary Tourism - a perfect fit for the Finger Lakes region.

Tourism Institute IV is designed for people working in any aspect of the hospitality industry-from lodging facilities, wineries, attractions and tourism promotion agencies to restaurants, economic development organizations, shopping centers and other businesses. Community leaders and students interested in tourism are also invited to attend.

This year's Institute will include a silent auction featuring items and gift certificates from many tourism-related businesses in the region. The proceeds will be sent to Tourism Cares for Tomorrow - Gulf Coast Restoration Fund. Tourism Cares for Tomorrow's mission is to help conserve, preserve and restore natural, cultural and historic treasures of the world so that future generations of travelers can enjoy what we have today. Rebuilding of the Gulf Coast tourism infrastructure will take years and part of that rebuilding will be the repair and restoration of natural, cultural and historic sites. Finger Lakes Tourism Alliance is proud to support this effort.

A registration fee of $299 per person covers all seminar sessions, materials, meals and special networking activities, including a reception co-hosted by McCadam Cheese and Canandaigua Wine Trail on Tuesday April 4, and a progressive dinner stopping at locations throughout Ontario County on Wednesday, April 5. The one day rate is $139 per person. Frontline staff attending the SuperHost® training on Tuesday can register for only $35. The registration deadline for Tourism Institute IV is March 27, 2006.
