“Bird Banding Demonstration” OCTOBER 9, 4 p.m.to 6 p.m. Join Audubon New York naturalist, Andrew Mackie, as he bands early evening bird migrants. Andrew will discuss why scientists band birds and what they learn about species distribution and abundance through mist netting, identification and banding of birds. This program is weather dependent.
Fee: $5/person, $3/child under 12.

“Volunteering at the MAC” OCTOBER 14, 9 to 11 a.m. The staff at the Montezuma Audubon Center (MAC) would love to help you find a way to share your time and talent. Opportunities to assist with environmental education programs, office work, and reception are just a few of the volunteer duties available. Please join us to learn about the Center and how your can make a difference! Program is free and refreshments served.

“Birding for Beginners” OCTOBER 16 & 18, October 16, 7 to 9 p.m.(classroom), October 18, 8-11 a.m.(field trip) Join naturalist Andrew Mackie Thursday, October 16 as he guides beginner birders on the ins and outs of bird identification and techniques to become a better birder. On Saturday, October 18, test your new skills as Andrew leads birders on a field trip to the birding hot spots within the Montezuma Wetlands Complex.
Fee: $20 per person, $10 for Members of the Friends of the Montezuma Wetlands Complex.

“A Green Halloween” OCTOBER 18, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring the family to the Montezuma Audubon Center to celebrate an early Halloween by being green. Meet live owls and creepy, crawly insects. Play games, create green crafts and build screech owl boxes! Prizes will be awarded for the most creative costumes made from recycled materials. The festival is co-sponsored by the Finger Lakes Solid Waste Management Authority, Friends of the Montezuma Wetlands Complex and Project STREAM.
Entrance Fee: Free. (Fees will be charged for select crafts and screech owl box materials.)

The Montezuma Audubon Center and Nature Store is open Tuesday-Saturday: 10 AM-4 PM and Sunday: Noon- 4 PM. Trails are open dawn until dusk.

The Montezuma Audubon Center is located approximately 2 miles north of the Hamlet of Savannah on State Route 89 and is part of the 36,000 acre Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC).
