National Wine Magazine gives Dr. Frank's Chardonnay N.Y.'s highest Rating!

Hammondsport, NY (March 25, 2008) – Dr. Frank's 2005 Barrel Fermented Chardonnay received the highest rating in April's issue of Wine Enthusiast Magazine. Numerous N.Y. Chardonnay's were rated but Dr. Frank's topped the chart with an 88 point score. Wine Enthusiast published this commendatory review, "Frank rarely misses a mark and this wine is another example of the poised flavors one expects from the winery. The aromas are fresh but subtle, with a delicate spin of toasted oak. The wine offers a restrained and sophisticated profile that balances depth with a clean, measured use of oak."

Dr. Frank's Chardonnay has a reputation of award-winning quality, winning "Best Chardonnay" several times at the New York Wine and Food Classic. This Chardonnay is fermented in French oak barrels, which is more costly but produces more delicate flavors and aromas than American oak.

"Many of our Chardonnay vineyards were planted in the late 50's and early 60's," say's Frederick Frank, President of Dr. Frank's Winery. "These are the oldest Chardonnay vines in the Eastern United States. We believe the old vines produce more concentrated flavors at the expense of lower yields. The deeper root structure enables the old vines to pick up trace elements that add to the wines complexity."

Located on Keuka Lake a few miles north of Hammondsport, Dr. Frank's has long been associated with the New York wine revolution. Its founder, Dr. Konstantin Frank, helped pioneer the introduction of the European vitis vinifera grapevines in the eastern United States. For his contributions in the American wine industry he was inducted into the Wine Spectator's "Hall of Fame". Now in its third generation, Dr. Frank's continues as New York's most award-winning winery.
