his medal follows a series of success awarded to its predecessor. The 2006 Homestead Reserve Riesling was named Best in Class and took Double Gold at the 2007 Long Beach Grand Cru International Wine Competition in California. “Finger Lakes Riesling has once again proved that it is the up and coming wine in this part of the world. These are exciting times to be a winemaker in the Finger Lakes,” comments Tim Benedict, winemaker at Hazlitt.
Hazlitt 1852 Vineyard’s Homestead Reserve Riesling grapes are hand-selected from family heritage vines growing adjacent to the Eastern shore of Seneca Lake. This dryer style Riesling brings aromas of ripe pear and tropical fruit that lead to full citrus and mineral flavors that linger on the palate. Limited to 950 cases, Hazlitt 1852 Vineyard’s 2007 Homestead Reserve Riesling is available in retail stores throughout New York State, at the winery and can be purchased online on the Hazlitt website at www.hazlitt1852.com. The Homestead Reserve Riesling retails for $17.99/bottle.
The Pacific Rim International Wine Competition judged over 2,000 wine entries from around the world. All submissions were tasted blindly by a panel of three. The competition’s 33-member judging panel was composed of sommeliers, wine producers, restaurateurs, wine consultants and wine journalists.
