September Classes at South Bristol Cultural Center

Canandaigua, NY (August 30, 2007) – South Bristol Cultural Center is pleased to present classes this September on winemaking, dance for kids, yoga, and photography. All classes will be held at the Center located at 5323 Seneca Point Road, Canandaigua---just fifteen minutes from the heart of downtown.

Introduction to Winemaking will be held on Wednesday, September 12th at 7:00 PM. Using a hands-on approach, experienced winemaker Frank Yacuzzo will discuss the process of home winemaking using fresh pressed grape juice, the tools required, and tips to create a wine to suit your personal taste. Missy Brahm and T.J. Brahm of Barrel Necessities will also be on-hand to answer questions about equipment and supplies which will be available for purchase. Call (585) 396-5950 to register. The cost of this class is $30 per person which includes wine tasting.

Fall Dance Classes for Kids is a four week series which runs September 12th, 19th, 26th, and October 3rd---6-10 year olds meet on Wednesdays at 4:30 PM and 11-15 year olds meet Wednesdays at 5:30 PM. This course is intended to give students an opportunity to explore movement and dance in a fun, friendly and safe environment. Each class will include warm-up stretching and strengthening exercises, technique training in various dance styles and opportunities to find personal style with improvisation games and spontaneous movement sessions. Instructor Alexandra Arnold has been studying various forms of dance, including ballet, tap, jazz, modern, African, swing and contra for over eighteen years. She is currently studying with members of the Garth Fagan Dance Company. Call (585) 396-5950 to register. The cost is $40 for all four classes.

Fall Yoga classes will be held on Wednesdays from 9:00 - 10:15 AM from September 12th through November 14th. What better way to start your day than with a sun salutation? Join instructor Cathy Brush to discover how yoga can benefit your body and mind. Please bring your own mat. The cost is $95 for punch card good for eight classes (SBCC members) / $105 (nonmembers). Drop-ins can participate for $15 per class.

Photography as Art with Rikki Van Camp will take place on Saturday, September 22nd from 1:00 - 3:00 PM. Join Rikki Van Camp, well-known photographer of the Finger Lakes and award-winning editor of the Messenger-Post Newspapers, for a sit-down lecture where she will discuss composition, lighting, unusual ways to present subjects, and portraiture. She will also describe what a career in photojournalism entails. A walk around the Cultural Center will follow, where class participants will have the opportunity to take pictures of the beautiful gardens, vineyards, and landscapes that can be found here. The class will focus not on the technical aspects of photography, but instead on photography as ART. It is a creative and fun way for anyone interested in photography to gather new ideas about how to capture one's own subjects. Advance registration is required by Sept. 15th. Call (585) 396-5950. ABOUT SOUTH BRISTOL CULTURAL CENTER - The South Bristol Cultural Center, located at 5323 Seneca Point Road in Canandaigua, is a multi-arts center situated in the scenic Bristol Hills. The facility is housed in a renovated pre-Civil War era barn where classes and workshops are offered in addition to a music concert series.
