Madison County Annual Archives Day
Wednesday October 1, 2008, 9:00 - 4:00
Madison County Office Building #4, Wampsville, NY

Madison County’s Annual Archives Day will be held on Wednesday, October 1st from 9am until 4pm in the lobby of the Madison County Office Building #4.  Archives Days are held across America in conjunction with the Society of American Archivists “American Archives Month”.  The Madison County event will feature actual documents held in the “Madison County Archives”, history displays from around the county, and a history lecture by the Madison County Historian.

Of great interest will be newly uncovered records of the early one room school houses, information on the railroads that once crisscrossed the county that will included early maps of the canals and railroads, atlases from 1853 & 1875 which include names of owners and locations, Lincklaen, Ledyard & Smith deeds, beautifully decorated election returns & appointments, plus much more.

The lectures scheduled for 1pm, will include an educational presentation and handout describing the type of information that is available to the public at the county level.  The second will feature the little known “Facts and Fun” of  Madison County’s history with the Madison County Historian  in her favorite role as “Back Street Mary” for the occasion, which will allow her to tell the “Tall Tales” of Madison County just for fun!

Come out and enjoy the day and learn some history along the way.
