Fall Sportsmen’s Days Next Weekend at Carpenter’s Brook Fish Hatchery

Fall Sportsmen’s Days, sponsored by Toyota, will take place next weekend, September 27 and 28 from 11am-5pm. The annual event, organized by the Onondaga County Federation of Sportsmen, will be held at Carpenter’s Brook Fish Hatchery in Elbridge. Event highlights include retriever dog demonstrations, which will be going on throughout both days. Worthington Kennels, Pheasant Ridge Kennel and Hunting Preserve along with local sportsperson Kirsten Hirsch will demonstrate different dog handling techniques and will offer dog-training instructions. The dogs will practice dry land and water retrieves.

On Sunday there will be a turkey call building workshop for kids, starting at noon. The S.H.O.T.S. (Sportspeople Helping Others Through Sharing) volunteer group has donated turkey call kits (first 40 kids). S.H.O.T.S.
will also have a free raffle for a Lifetime Sportsmen’s License for youth under 18 years old.

Al LaFrance, of the Independent Fur Harvesters, will do a predator calling demo on Saturday and Sunday at 2pm. Event goers will learn how to make a variety of animal vocalizations, distress sounds and ground movement sounds to call in coyotes, fox and bear.

The National Wild Turkey Federation will have a 3-D Laser simulated life size - big game hunting display. This display will allow everyone, even young children, a chance to go on an elk or deer hunt without leaving the park.

Admission is just $5.00 per family (car) and covers all hands-on activities including opportunities to try fly and trout fishing. Carpenter’s Brook Fish Hatchery is located on Rt. 321, in Elbridge.
