Thursday, October 2
11:00 A.M., Buttermilk Falls State Park, Ithaca.
THE BEAUTY OF BUTTERMILK FALLS. Join a park naturalist on a ¾-mile hike through this gorge of stunning waterfalls and pools. Meet at the swim area in the lower park off Route 13.
11:00 A.M., Watkins Glen State Park, Watkins Glen.
WALK BEHIND THE WATERFALLS. Join a park naturalist on a guided nature walk one mile up the Gorge Trail to explore the origins and history of the gorge. Meet at the end of the parking lot in the main entrance of the park off of Franklin St./NYS Route 14.

WALK BEHIND THE WATERFALLS. Join a park naturalist on a guided nature walk one mile up the Gorge Trail to explore the origins and history of the gorge. Meet at the end of the parking lot in the main entrance of the park off of Franklin St./NYS Route 14.

***SPECIAL EVENT*** 1:00 – 4:00 P.M., Robert H. Treman State Park, Ithaca.
ARCHEOLOGY OPEN HOUSE. Come and join a Cornell archeology class as they unearth clues about our local history. This is the site of the 19th century village “Enfield Falls.” You will have the opportunity to watch the digging in progress and ask questions about the artifacts being found. The Old Mill will also be open for touring. This is a great event for all ages! The dig site is in the upper park which can be accessed from NYS Rt. 327. (There will be another open house on October 18th also 1-4 pm.)

TWO GORGES IN ONE. Enfield Glen has rocky and wooded sections. Explore both sections on this ½-mile walk to 115-foot-high Lucifer Falls. Meet at the Old Mill in the upper park off NYS Rt. 327.

2:00 P.M., Taughannock Falls State Park, Trumansburg.
TALL TALES OF TAUGHANNOCK FALLS. Walk with a park naturalist to discover the origins and nature of one of the highest waterfalls in the Northeast. Meet at the start of the Gorge Trail by Route 89.
6:30 P.M., Watkins Glen State Park, Watkins Glen.
WILDERNESS SLEEPERS. While you're cuddled up and warm inside your home during the winter, animals are outside surviving the harsh elements. Come and learn how some animals cope with the cold weather by hibernating! Find out the differences between true hibernators and deep sleepers. Also participate in a fun "hibernation" craft! Meet at the campground pavilion across from cabin #3.
6:30 P.M., Buttermilk Falls State Park, Ithaca.
BATTY AT BUTTERMILK! Bats are remarkable mammals that deserve our attention and protection. Come and learn about these amazing creatures and the benefits of having them around. Meet at the campground pavilion across from cabin #3.
Saturday, October 11
***SPECIAL EVENT***
9:00 A.M. – 3:00 P.M., Robert H. Treman State Park & Buttermilk Falls State Park, Ithaca.
THREE GORGES HIKE. Join park naturalists on an 8-mile hike through three of the Finger Lakes' most beautiful gorges! The hike will traverse Robert H. Treman’s Enfield Glen, Lickbrook Creek's gorge, and Buttermilk Falls' gorge. This hike has both easy and strenuous sections, hiking experience is recommended. Bring a lunch and water, and wear protective footgear! Meet at the lower Buttermilk Falls parking lot off Route 13, we will then carpool to upper Robert H. Treman. Call Chris at (607) 273-5092 for any questions about the hike.
