Strassburg Sock Keuka Lake Triathlon

Strassburg Sock Keuka Lake Triathlon

The Arts Center of Yates County is once again working with Score This as the local partner for this year’s Strassburg Sock Keuka Lake Triathlon. The multifaceted race will be held on Sunday, June 11th from 7:00AM to 12:00 noon, starting on the Keuka College campus.

The annual event attracts 500-800 athletes competing in either a medium length triathlon (1.5k swim, 40k bike, 10k run), a short (.75k swim, 22k bike, 5k run), a medium or short “Aquabike” (swim and bike) or a Duathlon (bike and run).

There’s even a short kids triathlon for kids of all ages. A festive and colorful affair, the Keuka Triathlon relies on volunteers to help keep athletes on course and cheer them on. The Arts Center receives a donation for every triathlon volunteer. Volunteers help register athletes, help with body marking, man intersections to flag turns in the course, run boats (or jet skis) to guard swimmers and hand out water at the finish line.

Volunteers typically serve for three to four hours on Sunday morning. Anyone interested in volunteering for this year’s triathlon should contact the Arts Center at 315-536-8226 or artscenter@ycac.org.

Finger Lakes Chamber Music Festival – Performance

June 30th, 2017

Finger Lakes Chamber Music Festival presents String Quartet in a Program of German Masters Friday, June 30, 2017 at 7:30 pm in Mandeville Hall at the Clemens Center in Downtown Elmira

Adult tickets to Finger Lakes Chamber Music Festival concerts are $25 each; students are free. There is also a package special: six tickets for the price of five. These may be used at any concert and in any combination. Though tickets are usually available at the door, advance purchase is recommended.

Tickets may be ordered online at FingerLakes-Music.org (Click on Instant Seats) or by check sent to FLCMF, PO Box 605, Penn Yan, N Y 14527. This year’s Finger Lakes Chamber Music Festival season, June 17 to July 29, is a feast of music composed over the centuries. One concert celebrates generations of outstanding (too often less-known) works by female composers. Another program features German masters. And the Independence Weekend concert again honors America’s own great talents.

Ensembles from the Manhattan Chamber Orchestra take the lead under conductor, Richard Auldon Clark. New guest artists this year include the Abel Family String Quartet (mother, father, son and daughter). Completing the group took years!

The performance at the Clemens Center features the String Quartet in a program of German masters: Mozart, Eine Kleine Nachtmusik; Haydn, Serenade; J.S. Bach, Suite of Dances; Johann Strauss, Thunder and Lightning Polka, Perpetuum Mobile, Tales from the Vienna Woods; and Beethoven, String Quartet op.95

For a complete listing of 2017 Finger Lakes Chamber Music Festival schedule of concerts, please visit FingerLakes-Music.org. This year’s Festival is made possible, in part, by a grant from NYSCA’s Decentralization Program, administered locally by the Finger Lakes Community Arts Grants (FLCAG).
