The Best of Seneca West Wine Tour

September 19th, 2015

The western shores of Seneca Lake are home to some of the most well-respected wine-makers in the Finger Lakes. On this tour, you will learn their stories and taste the outcome of their commitment and passion to their craft. Our first stop is Kemmeter Winery, the boutique winery of Johannes Rienhardt. Johannes comes from a wine-making family in Germany that has been making wines since the mid 15th century. He left Germany, and moved to the Finger Lakes to express his own vision of fine wine making.

Enjoy an intimate experience with Johannes as he shares with you the progress of his young vineyard, followed by a wine-tasting designed to share with you the personality of the fruit in its purest form. Next, get ready to never think about wieners and burgers the same way again. The FLX Wienery is the special eatery project of couple Christopher Bates and Isabel Bogadtke. Christopher is a Master Sommelier and Isabel was named by Mobil Travel Guide as offering the Best Service in the World.

Today, their collaborative energies go into creating Wienery and Burger “Art” bringing together flavors and textures from locally-sourced ingredients that unveil their creations. From their house-made sausages and freshly ground burgers to their hand-cut fries and chips, get ready for what has been called “arguably the best hot dog stand in the world.” Lunch is paired with selected craft beers from around the globe. After lunch, we make our way up the road to Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyards, where we will enjoy a private tasting in the winery. Wiemer is considered one of the top Riesling producers in the United States, and was recognized by Wine & Spirits Magazine as one of the top 100 American wineries for 2014. We will explore exquisite white varietals followed by examples of vineyard variations in their Cabernet Franc.

Our final stop of the day is Red Tail Ridge Winery. Red Tail Ridge is recognized by the New York Times, Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast as one of the best producers in the region. Winemaker Nancy Irelan has made a name in the region for exploring grape varieties not seen anywhere else in the region, like the German Dornfelder and the Italian Teroldego in addition to more classic Finger Lakes varietals. Enjoy a private tasting featuring their array of unique wines as the perfect ending to a great day.

Price: $145.00 per person. This price includes the transportation, tasting fees, added services, lunch, and special food pairings. This price is associated with a 5 person total guest count. Alternate pricing and touring options are available for tours that do not meet this minimum. Departure Locations: (This tour runs from 10:30 am-4:30 pm) Hotel Ithaca, 222 S. Cayuga St., Ithaca, NY 14850 Geneva on the Lake, 1001 Lochland Rd (Rte 14), Geneva NY 14456 Belhurst Castle, 4069 Westlake Rd., Geneva NY 14456 To book this tour visit http://experiencefingerlakes.com/ or call Experience! Through the Tasting Glass: The Wondrous Wines of Keuka Lake

September 19th, 2015

Keuka Lake…where wine making first began in the region over 150 years ago. It is the birthplace of the Finger Lakes wine industry and the home of wine innovation ever since. This tour celebrates the wineries on Keuka who made history all those years ago, and those who continue to make history with some of the most talked about wines in the region. The tour begins in the village square in the heart of Hammondsport.

Learn about the birth of the Finger Lakes grape and wine industry as we make our way to Pleasant Valley Wine Company, the first bonded winery in the United States. We will tour their historic winery, see the champagne caves from the late 1800’s, and learning how the winery grew to become Taylor Wine Company – one of the largest wine producers in the mid-twentieth century. Taste one of the few remaining wines in the US that still can be referred to as Champagne, as well as other wines that defined the region in the late 1800s and post-prohibition 1900s. We will then head back into the village of Hammondsport to enjoy a wine-pairing lunch at Luna Mezza Grille featuring local finger lakes wines.

After lunch, the tour continues at Dr. Konstantin Frank’s Wine Cellars, the igniter of the Vinifera wine revolution in the Finger Lakes. Enjoy a historically narrated wine tasting that unfolds half a century and three generations of wine making in the Frank family. Visit Chateau Frank, their family’s sparking wine facility.

Explore the cellar and learn the traditional champagne method of making sparking wine directly from the wine maker. The tour culminates with a private tasting at Heron Hill Winery, where we will feature vineyard-specific vintages of rieslings, cabernets and other Finger Lakes varietals that are defining our region in the 21st century. To book this tour visit http://experiencefingerlakes.com/ or call Experience! The Finger Lakes at 607-233-4818, Monday-Friday, 9AM-5PM.

This tour is only available for private parties upon request, beginning May 24 and ending November 29th. A minimum of 5 guests is required to run this tour, a maximum of 13 can be accommodated. Please call 607-233-4818 if you are interested in this tour for your party.

Bill Maher

September 27th, 2015

For more than twenty years, Bill Maher has set the boundaries of where funny, political talk can go on American television. First on “Politically Incorrect” (Comedy Central, ABC, 1993-2002), and for the last thirteen years on HBO’s “Real Time,” Maher’s combination of unflinching honesty and big laughs have garnered him 34 Emmy nominations. Maher won his first Emmy in 2014 as executive producer for HBO series, “VICE.” In October of 2008, this same combination was on display in Maher’s uproarious and unprecedented swipe at organized religion, “Religulous,” directed by Larry Charles (“Borat”). The documentary has gone on to become the 8th Highest Grossing Documentary ever. In addition to his television program – which has featured such regular visitors as Howard Dean, Ben Affleck, Robin Williams, Arianna Huffington, Cory Booker and Michael Moore – Maher has written five bestsellers: “True Story,” “Does Anybody Have a Problem with That? Politically Incorrect’s Greatest Hits,” “When You Ride Alone, You Ride with Bin Laden,” “New Rules: Polite Musings from a Timid Observer,” and most recently, “The New New Rules: A Funny Look at How Everybody But Me Has Their Head Up Their Ass.” Maher started his career as a stand-up comedian in 1979, and still performs at least fifty dates a year in Las Vegas and in sold out theaters all across the country. Three of his ten stand-up specials for HBO – 2007’s “The Decider,” 2005’s “I’m Swiss,” as well as the hilarious, “Bill Maher … But I’m Not Wrong,” – have been nominated for Emmy awards. Maher was born in New York City, raised in River Vale, N.J. and went to Cornell University. He now resides in Los Angeles. http://www.billmaher.com/
