Explore some of the oddest, wackiest, and most puzzling toys of all time in the new What Were They Thinking? display opening April 1 near The Strong Express. View head-scratching artifacts from the museum’s collections—including the Daddy Saddle, engineered for a child to turn a parent into a human pony; the Big Time Nose Around ring toss, which uses the sharp features of former President Richard Nixon to catch the ring; and Jarts lawn darts, barbed projectiles banned in 1988 by the Consumer Product Safety division. Included with general museum admission fees.

Finger Lakes Food Traditions Lecture

Author Laura Winter Falk will examine the history and evolution of food in the Finger Lakes in the second installment of the Geneva Historical Society's Spring Lecture Series on Friday, April 10 at 7:30 p.m.

Based on the book of the same name, Falk's talk will explore food traditions of the Finger Lakes, weaving a story of the relationship between the people and the region in which they grow, eat and enjoy food. Beginning with the Iroquois cultivation of the Three Sisters—corn, beans and squash—she will trace this relationship up to the development of modern wine varietals and the locavore movement. Copies of Culinary History of the Finger Lakes: From the Three Sisters to Riesling will be available for purchase and signing following the event.

The show will include works by students at West and North Street Elementary Schools, Geneva Middle School and Geneva High School. A reception will be held at the Museum in conjunction with Geneva Night Out on Friday, May 1 from 5-8 p.m. Refreshments will be provided by the Catharine Foster Hopkins Art Reading Club and there will be children's art activities in the Hucker Gallery. Natural Areas Academy

We will focus on creating a rain garden, invasive species control, native plants, and site preparation. These workshops along with management practices learned and re-enforced through directed stewardship efforts in Plantations' natural areas can be practiced on any scale, including your yard. The Spring program culminates in participants helping to construct a beautiful rain garden at Cornell Plantation's Mundy Wildflower Garden. Pre-registration is required.
