On Tuesday March 6, the Aurora Inn Dining Room will present the next event in its series of cooking classes, this one covering knife skills. The hands-on class will focus on the skills and usage essential to handling an indispensable culinary tool.
Knife Skills will take place from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the Lakeside Room of the Aurora Inn. The class is $65 per person, or $85 for those students who choose to keep their knives.
Knife skills are fundamental to the culinary arts, as they allow the chef to work efficiently and safely. This course will provide an introduction to basic knife skills and techniques. Students will learn the differences between a chef’s knife, paring knife, boning knife, scimitar, and slicer. We’ll discuss maintenance, sharpening, and the construction of knives. Our class will focus on working with fruits and vegetables. Light refreshments will be provided as well.
“Knowing how to handle a knife correctly is just as important to the culinary arts as knowledge of recipes or execution,” states Meryl Davis, Director of Training and Service. “And learning a new skill to utilize in the kitchen can be just as fun and interesting as learning how to prepare a dish or cook using a new recipe.”
To make reservations or for further information, contact Meryl Davis at 315.364.8862 or at mdavis@aurora-inn.com.
The Aurora Inn is located at 391 Main Street, Aurora, N.Y. More information on the Inn’s cooking class series can be found at http://innsofaurora.com/food-wine/cooking-classes/.

This is a live, audience participation show where the crime has already happened, and the audience is the jury. “The Case of the Staged Suicide:” Police discovered the body of Lucinda Hartney hanging from a rafter in her kitchen. They also concluded that Ms. Hartney had been hung by another party, and that this was a case of murder made to look like suicide, not suicide! On trial are Lucinda’s work colleague, friend, landlord, and neighbor.
Come on down for an evening of hilarity as you decide who is guilty or innocent!!!
