Onondaga

"People of the Hills" Area 2,944 acres Length 5 miles Max. Depth 71 feet Max. Width 1 miles Volume 35 billion gallons Elevation 400 feet.   Known as Ganantaha, Onondaga lake - named for the Onondaga Indians.

 

Towns

Syracuse -  The “Salt” city is located at the cross roads of Rt 81 and NYS Thruway.  It is Home to Syracuse University and the Carrier Dome,  Destiny USA Mall one of the largest shopping destinations in the region. For the people of all ages visit the Rosamond Gifford Zoo which has over 700 animals.  

 

Beaches & Parks

Onondaga Lake Park – On eastern side of the lake in Liverpool is a wonderful pedestrian park,
for  walkers, joggers,  roller skating,  biking.   A tram runs during the summer months from Willow Bay to the southern end of the park.

Long Branch Park, Long Branch Rd.  Liverpool on the northern end of Onondaga Lake Park,  picnic area, walking   trails, access to the West shore trail running through Lakeland area.

 

Marina's

Onondaga’s Marina is located on  the eastern shore, offers a boat launch and small boat rentals. 


Attractions

Salt Museum – self guided tour depicting Syracuse’s “Salt City” history.
 
Destiny USA Mall – Located on the southern end of the Lake, accesses via Rt. 81.

Rosamond Gifford Zoo – Home to over 700 animals of all shapes and sizes.
