Mumford, June 7, 2018— From the first glimpse of sheepdogs at work in the morning to the final note from a modern Irish rock band in the evening, Saturday, June 16, will be a day overflowing with all things Celtic during Genesee Country Village & Museum’s Celtic Faire.

Scottish pipes, Irish dancers and a medley of Celtic music, food and drinks highlight a day that features performances by:

·                     The Rochester Scottish Pipes and Drums

·                     Feadán Òr

·                     The Goodwin Academy of Irish Dance

·                     Harpist Mary Lester

·                     Gates Keystone Club Police Pipes & Drums

·                     Rochester Strathspey & Reel Society

·                     Drumcliffe School of Irish Dance

·                     Irish Rochester Musician’s Association's Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann

New this year is an after-hours rock show featuring the band 1916 with its blend of modern Irish punk and rockabilly. The 5:30-8:30pm evening concert is included in Celtic Faire admission. Concert-only tickets are just $10.

Expert storyteller and historian Gretchen Murray Sepik is "Erie Canal Sal," a spunky Irish cook working on an 1840 Erie Canal packet boat, spinning Irish folk tales that fill the room with laughter. This family-friendly show is featured at 11:30am, 2:30 and 4 pm.

There will be demonstrations of hurling (a high-speed field game), Celtic knot tying, skirting (removing inferior and contaminated fiber, and vegetable matter) fleeces, processing and spinning flax, sheep herding, natural dyeing, brewing in the Scottish tradition and how to cook the perfect Scottish oatcake.

Visitors can try spinning with a dealgan (a Scottish hand spindle), try a Scotch egg, taste a wee bit o’ haggis or Scotch marmalade and view a group of Highland cattle. Kids can test their abilities in a firkin foot race or caber and sheaf tosses. And if that’s not enough, there will be plenty of vendors selling imports, keepsakes and more.

The daytime event, which runs from 10 am to 5 pm, concludes with a special massed bands performance on the museum’s Great Meadow. Admission is $22/$19 seniors/$14 youth (4-17) and free to children 3 and under. The after-hours rock concert plays 5:30-8:30pm. Concert-only tickets are: $10/$8 GCV&M members.
