Living History at Ganondagan

Ganondagan State Historic Site in Victor, NY (18 miles southeast of Rochester) is the only state park in New York devoted entirely to indigenous American history and culture. Walk in the Park visited Ganondagan on September 21, 2019 for their annual Living History Day, with Haudenosaunee people dressed in 17th century dress explaining the history and ways of Ganondagan and their people at that time. This takes place in the full-scale bark longhouse. In their museum, the Seneca Art and Culture Center, Friends of Ganondagan demonstrate ancient arts and skills, while others demonstrate traditional cooking, archery and other life crafts in stations near the longhouse. Find out more about Ganondagan

We round out this encore episode (227) with scenes from the September 2019 Ithaca Climate March, which occurred with thousands of such events around the world.

Walk in the Park is a non-commercial, public access television series produced in Ithaca NY for cablecast on Ithaca channel 13, by Owl Gorge Productions, a Finger Lakes Tourism Alliance partner.

Vineyard Tour in Winter

Celebrate a beautiful winter’s day with a vineyard tour overlooking the scenic West Branch of Keuka Lake.  Come join the Saunders Finger Lakes Museum team and local grape grower, Tom Pearson, on a walking tour of his farm in the dormant season.  Learn about cold weather grape varieties (a specialty of the Cornell Experiment Station in Geneva), practices to protect the grapes from cold, and the main work of this part of the year, namely pruning and trellising the new and established vines.  We will have snowshoes available in the event that we have snow.  The path is relatively flat and we will traverse the land at a casual pace but please dress accordingly in layers and wear comfortable shoes.

After the trek through the vineyards, finish at the barn with a warm-up in the cozy living room complete with a crackling fireplace.  We will have some “Tastes of Keuka Lake” for sampling.  Share tales of the region in winter as you warm your toes by the fire!

Winter Hike at Buttonwood Grove
Winter Hike at Buttonwood Grove with the Montezuma Audubon Center

Join Montezuma Audubon Center staff at Buttonwood Grove Winery (5986 State Route 89, Romulus, NY 14541) for a winter birding and wine excursion! We will embark on a guided leisure hike along Buttonwood Grove's vineyard trails to see what birds and wildlife are wandering and flittering throughout the vineyards. Bald Eagles frequent the area so we will keep our eyes open for a Bald Eagle sighting. After our blood is pumping from our excursion, we will cozy up around a fire with a wine tasting and chili pairing presented by Buttonwood Grove. We will finish out this event with a live bird of prey presentation by Daena Ford of Braddock Bay Raptor Research to give everyone a closer look at their raptor ambassadors. We will be outside for the majority of the event so please dress accordingly! This event is 21+ and the winery staff may ask for identification.
