Frozen Taughannock Falls
"Frozen Lakes and Waterfalls"

Walk in the Park is a free, non-commercial, half-hour, public access TV series featuring parks and sights around the Finger Lakes region. It is produced for the public by Owl Gorge Productions, a partner business in the Finger Lakes Tourism Alliance.

In this era of climate disequilibrium, we still have gotten some cold winters. That was the case in 2014, when this encore episode (68) was recorded. Ice abounded from the Great Lakes to the Finger Lakes to the big waterfalls around Ithaca, NY. We explore these wonders from space, from the sky, and from the ground. Niagara Falls, Chimney Bluffs, Cayuga Lake, Taughannock Falls State Park, Ithaca Falls, Buttermilk Falls State Park, and Lucifer Falls in Robert H. Treman State Park, all near Ithaca. Why has our winter been so cold? Why don’t Seneca Lake and Cayuga Lake normally freeze over while the other nine Finger Lakes do freeze? See big waterfalls trapped in ice. Many thanks for photographs from NASA, Steve Knapp of Keukaview Photography and the Penn Yan Flying Club, Bill Hecht,  Photography 4d, and Nigel Peter Benson Kent. This episode 68 was recorded March 12, 2014

Bubbly for New Year's

The Radisson is capping off its 50th golden year of proudly serving Corning with a New Year’s Eve celebration for the ages.  Designed exclusively with couples in mind, Radisson Corning will ring in 2023 on Saturday, December 31st with dining, dancing, and the option to take a short and safe elevator ride to bed!  The $279 Bubbly for New Year’s event includes a prix fixe dinner with drinks for two at the hotel’s signature restaurant, Grill-1-2-5, dancing and live music by the Twin Tier’s finest 5-piece party band, Major Big Time, a live midnight countdown telecast from Times Square, a Champagne toast, and a cozy guestroom.  Reservations are now available by visiting Radisson Corning’s website: https://www.radisson.com/corningny (direct link to booking page here).  For the general public interested in partaking in the New Year’s Eve festivities (less the dinner and guestroom package), Radisson cordially invites them to come without booking a package and for no cover charge.  It’s time to pop the cork on a New Year full of hope and possibility with Radisson Corning as it eagerly looks forward to transitioning to a Hilton brand in 2023.

Other holiday happenings at Radisson Corning include:

Breakfast with Santa: Santa has breakfast reservations at the Radisson this year and all the local good girls and boys are invited!  From 9 am to 11 am on December 11th, families can join The Jolly Old Elf for a festive meal in the elegant holiday decorated dining room, where nostalgia and a bountiful feast make for fond memories and full bellies.  While the Man in the Big Red Suit takes wish lists and complimentary photos, the kitchen will roll out a lavish breakfast buffet with Christmas-themed items for the kiddos and gourmet favorites for the grown-ups.  Children six and under eat free with a paying adult.  Menu info and reservations can be obtained by calling 607-962-5000 extension 127.

Christmas Eve Dinner: The culinary team at Radisson is giving the community an opportunity to skip stressful holiday cooking and be served instead by Corning’s finest.  Grill 1-2-5 is now taking reservations for Christmas Eve dinner, with seating times available from 5 pm to 8 pm.  The chef-driven, ala carte holiday menu includes creative appetizers, lavish meat and fish entrees, and handmade desserts.  Menu info and reservations can be obtained by calling 607-962-5000 extension 127.
