Annual Festivals & Special Events

Fun for the whole family

There are a number of great annual festivals and events throughout the Finger Lakes every year. Finger Lakes events showcase the rich character of our communities year-round.

The Finger Lakes is wine country, so don't forget to check on special events with our Wine Trail partners. But, there's much more to the Finger Lakes. Events centered around outdoor adventure, our rich history, the changing seasons, harvest season and the region's agricultural bounty, sport and music are never far away.

GlassFest in Corning celebrates the long history of glass and glassmaking in Corning, with many events held in Corning’s Gaffer District and at the Corning Museum of Glass. Looking for out of the box unique celebrations of music, art, and more? Don’t miss the Rochester Fringe Festival celebrating the not so mainstream art of the ‘fringes’. More music abounds at the Geneva Music Festival with music and the arts taking place with celebrations around the Finger Lakes in various towns and communities.

Live music can be found throughout the region nearly every day of the week by visiting our partner FLX Music 247.

Find true local culture in the county fairs hosted in each of the 14 counties of the Finger Lakes. There you will find the taste, sights and sounds of summer in the region.

Stevie Tombstone to Perform in Cayuga Museum’s Carriage House Theater

On Friday, March 31 from 7-9 PM, come to the Cayuga Museum of History and Art’s Carriage House Theater for an intimate evening of original folk country with vintage blues influences by award winning musicians, featuring Stevie Tombstone and special guests the Loren Barrigar Duo.

Stevie Tombstone is a quintessential troubadour, a veteran musician who crafts powerful folk songs tinged with classic country and vintage blues influences. In addition to producing and writing for other artists, Stevie still maintains a hardcore troubadour outlook, enjoying a grassroots following that's kept him on the trail for the last three decades.

International Award Winning Guitarist Loren Barrigar will start the evening out. Loren is the youngest instrumentalist to perform at The Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee. Loren settled in Central New York and has raised his family while playing on countless recordings as a studio musician and performing in several bands. He spent six years touring Europe and the United States with another fine guitarist, Mark Mazengarb. Loren has performed with a who's who list of acoustic players from Tommy Emmanuel to Laurence Juber (Paul McCartney's guitarist).

As a songwriter his melodies have been featured on TV shows such as "ER" and "The Young and The Restless" as well as receiving an International Acoustic Music Award for best instrumental for his original, "Onward". Loren's talents have earned him six Sammy Awards thus far ranging from Best Instrumentalist to Best Recording.

Admission is $12 advance sale (available through March 30), $15 day-of online and at the door.

You can find the link to purchase  advance sale tickets at cayugamuseum.org/upcoming-events-and-performances/. The Carriage House Theater is located at 203 Genesee St. (rear) in Auburn. Parking is available in the lot adjacent to the theater and on Genesee St.

barrel and tank sample fridays
Barrel and Tank Sample Fridays

Do you consider yourself an aficionado of sorts? A connoisseur devoted to wine? If so, we’ve got the perfect promotion for you.

On every Friday in March, the member wineries of the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail will be offering you a tank or barrel sample to go along with the purchase of your flight or tasting.

This isn’t just “getting an additional wine sample.” This is getting to taste a wine before it’s ready for the bottle. It’s getting to taste the wine before it’s mature, filtered, etc.

It’s getting to taste a part of the winemaking process.

The tank or barrel sample you have will* align with what’s in your flight or tasting selection, so you’ll get to experience the “before and after” of that wine.

But even if you aren’t an aficionado or connoisseur, this tasting will still be such an eye-opening experience and will give you a greater appreciation for the steps that go into creating your favorite wine.

So pick a Friday (or 2) and swing into any of our 12 wineries during the month of March for your Tank or Barrel Samples.

*Exceptions to this may apply depending on your selection and what they have in their tanks and barrels.

The Museum's Blown Away Season 3 display features two pieces from John: Inevitable expansion, from the "out of this world" challenge, and his finale-winning installation, Behind the Golden Door.

Have you ever been tempted to flee your own life? Becky Foster is caught in middle age, middle management and in a middling marriage—with no prospects for change on the horizon. Then one night a socially inept and grief-struck millionaire stumbles into the car dealership where Becky works. Becky is offered nothing short of a new life…and the audience is offered a chance to ride shotgun in a way that most plays wouldn’t dare. INN AT TAUGHANNOCK FALLS RELEASES NEW CHEF'S CLUB TASTING SERIES Aux Chocolat

INN AT TAUGHANNOCK FALLS RELEASES NEW CHEF'S CLUB TASTING SERIES
The new program debuts this spring and is the first phase of the Chef's Club project

The Inn at Taughannock Falls is pleased to announce their new Chef's Club Tasting Series at Taughannock Project. The first phase of this project will involve three foodie focused gourmet experiences where guests will be able indulge in multi-course tasting menus dedicated to decadent cuisine themes. The Inn will host "Aux Chocolat" on April 13th, "Di Pasta" on April 27th, and "The Vegan Menu" on May 11th. Each of these nights will focus on the themes of Chocolate, Pasta, and Veganism respectively, utilizing a 6-7 course prix-fixe menu and an optional local wines pairing package.

The Inn at Taughannock Falls is expanding its restaurant profile, and introducing a revitalization of its dining program and offerings. Executive Chef Clem Coleman joined the restaurant in 2022, helping to spearhead the post-COVID initiative to open the restaurant's doors to bigger, more vibrant experiences. Combining this with the utilization of the new one-acre Enchantment Garden the restaurant hopes to give guests an unrivaled experience. Restaurant and Hotel guests are welcome to make a memory out of their time at the Inn, sitting at one of the many fire pits or the outdoor two-story wood burning fireplace, enjoying the Sonos-sound system which connects each corner of the restaurant and garden, and marveling at the cutting edge LED light system that assists in setting custom moods and tones for each event or occasion.

Of the tasting series, Chef Clem said  "It's such an excellent opportunity to not only showcase the diverse culinary backgrounds of our kitchen staff but also to incorporate elements and themes from the surrounding communities, and especially local farms, into these really immersive menus. We're so excited to highlight these dishes."  The Inn at Taughannock Falls re-opens for the season on March 31st and will be offering regular dinner service Fridays-Sundays from 5-9PM. Easter and Mother's Day brunches will be available 11AM-4PM as well. The restaurant will open for its full Thursday-Monday schedule in June. Direct customer reviews have earned the restaurant the OpenTable Diner's Choice Award for 2023 in the following categories: Foodies, Ambiance, Romance, Notable Wine List, and Special Occasions. The Inn at Taughannock Falls also extends special thanks to local winery operators that are assisting them with expanding their local wine portfolio for the second season in a row.

About the Inn at Taughannock Falls: The Inn at Taughannock Falls is a luxury boutique hotel, casual fine dining restaurant with panoramic window views of Cayuga Lake, and event center that operates 9 miles from Ithaca, NY on Route 89 in Trumansburg, next door to the Taughannock Falls State Park. The property has undergone extension renovation and restoration over the last seven years and offers a number of programs and events each year, such as their community fireworks show on July 4th, aimed at inviting locals and visitors alike to experience the property and form memories there. The one-acre Enchantment Garden opened in 2021 and has helped earn the Inn the Best of Weddings rating on The Knot annually since opening.

RMSC Cumming Nature Center: Heritage Maker Workshops- Bird Carving: Northern Cardinal (Male)

HERITAGE MAKER WORKSHOP SERIES

Explore new skills from bird carving to native gardening in a Heritage Maker workshop at Cumming Nature Center!

Our workshops are designed to create a supportive space for talented teachers and craftspeople to share traditional knowledge through fellowship and intensive instruction. Classes are relaxed, informative, and recognize the value in heritage skills and knowledge-building. Past classes have included spoon carving, blacksmithing, food preservation, pysanky, and more.

Leave your screen behind, escape to the woods, and use your hands to create something new this year!

BIRD CARVING: NORTHERN CARDINAL (MALE)

April 15 & 16 | 9:30am – 4:00pm
$125

Discover the joy of bird carving! In this two-day workshop, participants will study bird anatomy and carving techniques while learning how to carve and paint a life-size male Northern Cardinal. Appropriate to beginner and experienced woodcarvers alike, students will be guided by the instructor through the process from start to finish. The Northern Cardinal is native to the northeast U.S. and is easily recognized by its bright red color, particular in the winter. Materials and tools will be provided.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Robin Salsbury wanted to be a wood carver at a young age and made a few carvings while in high school. An opportunity to take a class at RMSC carving a shorebird gave him the chance to finally explore this art form. Since then he has taken numerous classes from some of the foremost carvers throughout the U.S. and Canada. He has also competed at carving shows across the U.S. and Canada winning numerous ribbons, including a best of show at the Genesee Valley Woodcarvers Show. For over 20 years Robin has carved numerous birds, generally preferring native species. His repertoire includes ducks, geese, shorebirds, songbirds, and even a life-size Ivory-Billed Woodpecker.  He started teaching bird carving classes through W. Irondequoit’s Continuing Education Program around the year 2000 as well as several classes with the Woodcarving Club.

Two members of the Finger Lakes Scaling Team remove loose rock from above the Gorge Trail at Robert H. Treman State Park.
Scaling Our Gorges

Each spring, the Finger Lakes State Parks Scaling Teams rappel down cliffs over Gorge Trails, manually removing shards of shale that winter freezing has left perched on ledges. If they didn’t do this hard, dangerous work, called “scaling,” it would not be safe enough for us to walk in the gorges, for fear of falling rock. Scaling must be conducted annually in six state parks in the Finger Lakes region. In this encore episode (167) of Walk in the Park from 2017, we take a close look at the scalers at work on the high cliffs in the upper gorge of Enfield Glen in Robert H. Treman State Park near Ithaca, NY. The scalers tell us and show us what’s involved.

Walk in the Park is a non-commercial, public access, cable television series produced by Owl Gorge Productions, a Finger Lakes Tourism Alliance partner.

ABOUT THE RMSC COUNCIL

RMSC Council was initiated in 1941 when several Rochester women decided to form a Women’s Council for social interaction and fundraising support for the Rochester Museum & Science Center (RMSC). These women volunteered their time and energy by creating special activities and annual fundraising events.

In 2018, the RMSC Women’s Council opened its membership to men and women, changed its name to the more inclusive RMSC Council, and expanded its mission to provide educational programming to the Rochester community. Since its inception 80 years ago, RMSC Council has proudly donated close to $2.8 million to RMSC through creative and invaluable fundraising efforts.
