Behind the Scenes Tour

Behind-the-Scenes Tours of Rose Hill Mansion

Go from the basement to the belvedere of Rose Hill Mansion. Please

be advised that there are many stairs to climb, a dirt floor basement and some confined spaces included in the tour. The tour lasts an hour. Recommended for adults and children over 10 years old. As space is limited, reservations are required and can be purchased at historicgeneva.org. The tour lasts an hour.

FREE Community Paddle

Have you ever wanted to try a kayak or canoe out for the first time? Curious to learn more about Sugar Creek and the Townsend-Grady Wildlife Preserve wetlands? Come to the Saunders Finger Lakes Museum to speak with staff and volunteers while enjoying some time out on the water and in the wetlands! Kayaks and paddles, canoes and paddles, and life jackets for children and adults are available to use at the museum. Or bring your own!

Pre-registration for a time slot is required.

You can join the fun at 10am, 11am and 12pm.

Music making can be a balm, offering respite among sorrow and strife, and giving artists a way of expressing their pain or reacting to their circumstances. In music, composers may celebrate victories, lament the loss of friends, or find the metaphorical harmony and peace that eludes the larger world. Join resident GMF artists for an exploration of three composers whose lives and works were shaped by their experience of conflict. Written during the Napoleonic wars, Beethoven’s “Harp” Quartet is a sparkling, lyrical reminder of joy, while Shostakovich’s Piano Trio, written as a memorial and replete with a danse macabre, dwells upon the tragic. Georges Antoine’s Piano Quartet, emerging from the trenches of World War I, is a passionate testament to a musical career cut short.

Join GMF resident artists for music that moves from morning to night. We begin with a musical evocation of daybreak; Joseph Haydn’s Quartet in B Flat Op. 76, No. 4 (“Sunrise,”) opens with a gentle melody rising out of a surrounding harmonic halo, before revealing its full brilliance. The Piano Sonata No. 2 in G-sharp minor by Alexander Scriabin moves through both moods and modes to juxtapose light and dark, while contemporary composers offer their own interpretations of such contrasts. We close, of course, as darkness falls with Arnold Schoenberg’s evocative Verklärte Nacht (“Transfigured Night”), which captures the moonlit scene depicted by Richard Dehmal’s eponymous poem.

The 3rd Annual Saperavi Festival returns to Chateau Frank! Enjoy wines from Finger Lakes wine producers as well as from Georgian producers. Indulge in traditional Georgian cuisine from Chama Mama Restaurant while listening to authentic music, and soak in the gorgeous Keuka Lake views and vineyards on our historic property!

Kayak Lessons

This Saunders Finger Lakes Museum class will help newcomers to kayaking with beginning skills, and will help the intermediate level kayakers to refine their strokes, and add more skills to their kayaking repertoire. Current skill level will be evaluated at the beginning of class. Classes will be taught by ACA certified Museum personnel.

Use of gear is included in ticket cost.

Bring your father to Rose Hill in celebration of Father’s Day. You can get one admission free with the purchase of one adult admission. Explore life at the house in the 19th century. Tours run from 10:30, 11:30, 12:30, 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 on Friday and Saturday and 12:30, 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $10 for adults. Owego Strawberry Festival Block Party

This year the festival will return with its much-anticipated block party on Friday evening from 5 to 9 p.m., capped off by a Fireworks display; and then again on Saturday with a parade at 10 a.m., followed by entertainment, crafts, food, and even the return of everyone’s favorite dinosaurs! Kayak Instructor Certification Training

Become a certified kayak instructor with this Saunders Finger Lakes Museum program and take your passion for kayaking to the next level.

ACA Certified Instructor Trainer Tom Nickels, owner of Riverwind Kayak, will be leading this Level 1/Level 2 class. Tom has been leading kayak adventures and training instructors for almost two decades. Paddling skills and techniques, safety, rescue and towing will all be covered, along with teaching styles and group management. Completing the three-day class will make the participant eligible for the Level 2 certification. A two-day, Level 1 certification is also available.

Buy-One-Get-One Father's Day

Bring your father to Rose Hill in celebration of Father’s Day. You can get one admission free with the purchase of one adult admission. Explore life at the house in the 19th century. Tours run from 10:30, 11:30, 12:30, 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 on Friday and Saturday and 12:30, 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $10 for adults. Kayak Instructor Certification Training

Become a certified kayak instructor with this Saunders Finger Lakes Museum program and take your passion for kayaking to the next level.

ACA Certified Instructor Trainer Tom Nickels, owner of Riverwind Kayak, will be leading this Level 1/Level 2 class. Tom has been leading kayak adventures and training instructors for almost two decades. Paddling skills and techniques, safety, rescue and towing will all be covered, along with teaching styles and group management. Completing the three-day class will make the participant eligible for the Level 2 certification. A two-day, Level 1 certification is also available.

Summer Concert

Free summer concert at Rose Hill Mansion! Bring a picnic dinner, lawn chairs or a blanket. Enjoy an evening of music on the lawn to end a summer weekend in the Finger Lakes. On Sunday, June 16, A Girl Name Genny will perform. Their influences draw from jazz-roots music to bluegrass-folk genres, and even rock and roll. Fiddles solos, vocal harmonies, meaningful lyrics, insanely fast drums, and more are just some of the ingredients of what makes their shows work.

The last regular tour of Rose Hill Mansion will run at 3:30 p.m. There will be no house tours during the concerts. The Carriage House Gift Shop will be open during the concerts. Strawberry Moon Paddle

The strawberry moon paddle is led by Saunders Finger Lakes Museum’s NYS Outdoor Guides and Educators, taking guests out onto the waters of Keuka Lake, through wetlands, and back up Sugar Creek on the museum's campus. End the paddling experience with a bonfire and snacks.

SUP Yoga Class on Canandaigua Lake

This all levels yoga class pairs safely aligned movement with breath work so you feel great during and after class. This is a completely different experience than yoga on your mat! No two classes will ever be the same but each will offer a mix of sweaty strengthening poses and stretching while you get lulled into relaxation by Canandaigua Lake.

This is our most popular class! You'll learn basic paddling skills on the land, and then paddle around the North end of Canandaigua Lake. After paddleboarding, we'll come together as a group for a yoga class designed to ease tensions that might rise up from learning to balance on the board. The perfect mix of movement and stillness. This class is for all levels and no prior experience is required!

Kayak Lessons

Kayak lessons are a great way to learn the exciting sport of kayaking. This Saunders Finger Lakes Museum class will help newcomers to kayaking with beginning skills, and will help the intermediate level kayakers to refine their strokes, and add more skills to their kayaking repertoire. Current skill level will be evaluated at the beginning of class. Classes will be taught by ACA certified Museum personnel.
