Finger Lakes Events Calendar

Festivals, Happy Hour, Live Music, Theatre, and More!

It doesn’t matter what your interests are or who you’re in the Finger Lakes with, you can always find a great event to enrich your time in the region with those you care about.

Events take place all year round in the Finger Lakes region. From lakeside (and on the lake) events in the summer to harvest activities in the fall, snowmobiling or snowshoeing in the winter, and festivals in the springtime! Step inside a glassmaker’s studio to blow your own glass, stroll Main Street on a food tour, or gather for live music and theater performances. Browse the list of Finger Lakes events below or search the specific dates you will be visiting to see everything going on in the region.

Great Events that Happen Every Year

Below, you will find dozens of great events happening throughout the year with many of them happening annually. If you have memories of favorite annual Finger Lakes events from childhood such as cardboard boat regattas, hot air balloon festivals, cheese, apple or pumpkin festivals, to name a few, it’s likely that event that still takes place or, has likely improved your enjoyment. If you see a special event that piques your interest but can’t make it, click on the event anyway, it might be coming back next year!

Events Added Daily

Make sure to check back frequently to see if any other great events have been added. Events are added daily by businesses from every sector and interest so if there is nothing that sparks your interest now, there very well could be soon!

**Public Notice**

Please be sure to contact event venues directly for details regarding scheduling changes. David Levinthal: War, Myth, Desire

David Levinthal: War, Myth, Desire is the first museum retrospective of the artist’s work in more than twenty years. The exhibition will include nearly 200 prints, along with related books and ephemera, giving visitors a unique opportunity to consider Levinthal’s most recent work alongside key works from the full scope of his career.

Since the mid-1970s, David Levinthal has been exploring the relationship between photographic imagery and the fantasies, myths, events, and characters that shape contemporary America’s mental landscape. The exhibition will include photographs from all of his major series to date—the best-known of which include Hitler Moves East (1972–75), Modern Romance (1983–85), The Wild West (1986–89), Desire (1991–92), Blackface (1995–98), Barbie (1997–98), Baseball (1998–2004), and History (2010–15)—in addition to never-before-exhibited outtakes, commissions, and archival materials.

Brooklyn
Gail Albert Halaban: Out My Window

Gail Albert Halaban’s Out My Window is both a penetrating exploration of modern community and a group of moving and beautiful photographs. The project started when she moved to New York from Los Angeles. In an effort to combat feelings of loneliness and isolation, she began to use her art as a way of connecting with her neighbors. She starts by explaining her work to potential participants and asking for their involvement. If they agree, Albert Halaban facilitates communication among the neighbors and arranges to photograph one from the window of the other. In this way, Albert Halaban employs photography as a form of social engagement. For despite platitudes about modern technology making the world a smaller place, this same virtual environment can also result in feelings of isolation and extreme self-absorption. By connecting strangers who live across the street from each other, Albert Halaban’s expertly composed, beautifully rendered, large-scale photographs encourage viewers to take a fresh look at the people they see every day.

GCV&M's annual Fall Festival & Agricultural Fair is the highlight of the harvest season!

  • Experience the spirit of a 19th-century magic show
  • Attend a Punch & Judy puppet show
  • Tour the museum's 19th-century fully-functioning brewery throughout the day

There are exhibitions in many categories of vegetables, baked goods, preserves, hand-made needlecrafts and the industrial arts—including tin, iron and wooden wares; pottery; cooperage (barrel making); printing; and broom and soap making.

Prize-winning sheep, goats (even Myotonic "fainting" goats) and cows will be on display, in addition to a poultry show, sponsored by the Rochester Poultry Association.

Come see the village decked out in its finest fall colors as we celebrate the harvest with local merchants, family activities, base ball championships, and some competitive cooking during the Fall Festival and Agricultural Fair, Saturday, October 6 and Sunday, October 7, 2018.

There are plenty of entertainment options for families, including perennial favorites Punch and Judy as well as Signora Bella’s 19th century circus act, a magic show, and in the style of P.T. Kids are free at Genesee Country Village & Museum on Columbus Day

Genesee Country Village & Museum will be open on Columbus Day, October 8, 2018, and will offer FREE admission for kids 17 and under. From 10 am until 4 pm, the museum will be bustling with activity, and guests are always welcome to join in the fun! Farm-to-table enthusiasts and budding chefs can help the cooks churn butter and pound cornmeal for johnnycakes in the village houses. There will be 19th century games in the village square all day and a scavenger hunt around the museum grounds that begins at the admissions booth. Kids will also enjoy a visit to the Gallery's exhibit all about working dogs, and everyone can try their hand at making a tin ornament at the Tinsmith. Now that the heat of summer is fading, the animals are active in the village, including the teams of oxen used to work the fields in preparation for the harvest and winter.

Man pushing boat on ice
Kiliii Yuyan: On the Sea Ice, We Wear White at the George Eastman Museum

Kiliii Yuyan is an indigenous Hézhè & Chinese-American photographer, filmmaker, and journalist whose award-winning work has been published by the Nature Conservancy, NPR, Pacific Standard, and National Geographic Traveler. Yuyan's mission is to rewrite the narratives of minority and indigenous cultures—especially those who live close to the land. Against a backdrop of ecological upheaval, Yuyan shows us the essential connection to nature that has kept traditional cultures alive for millennia. His work presents an alternative vision of humanity’s greatest treasures—community, culture and the earth.

"As documentary photographer, you want to create enduring work, to be an insider, to see through the eyes of other cultures," Yuyan says.

From being adopted by an Inuit whaling family to becoming a shoulder to cry on for suicidal youth, Yuyan has gone deep into native communities to create photographs that are changing the perception of modern indigenous culture.

Book signing to follow.

Generously sponsored by museum member Thomas N. Tischer.

David Levinthal: War, Myth, Desire

David Levinthal: War, Myth, Desire is the first museum retrospective of the artist’s work in more than twenty years. Spirits of the Past Theatrical Tours

It’s dark, long past sunset. There’s something disquieting in the air. The old buildings, even the trees with their dry leaves rustling, seem to be whispering dark, sinister secrets. Using the 19th-century Historic Village as their canvas, costumed tour guides lead groups on a journey to re-discover spooky literary tales from years past. Tours will stop at buildings throughout the village, in which five-minute vignettes - based on popular novels/poems/short stories - are featured.

NEW this year - four days in a row of Spirits tours allow for both weekday and weekend tour options. Tours leave in groups of 20 and are approximately 75 minutes long. Be prepared to walk/stand for the tour's entirety; comfortable shoes are recommended, and please dress for the weather (rain or shine). This program is not recommended for children under the age of 12 (strollers are not allowed). Advanced reservations are required.

Wine Tradition and Innovation of Keuka Lake Wine Tour

The marriage of tradition and innovation – original  alongside the new  – is what has always defined Keuka Lake. Join us on this tour as we unfold the history of Finger Lakes winemaking, taste the present state of a diversity of fine wines being produced along Keuka lake, and get a peak into what’s in store for the region as it re-emerges as an international winemaking destination. This tour is like no other: four wineries representing a lineage of four different countries share their culture and history with each sip of the glass.

The tour begins at Dr. Konstantin Frank’s Wine Cellars, the igniter of the Vinifera wine revolution in the Finger Lakes. Enjoy a wine tasting in their 1962 Reserve Tasting room where you will experience some of the very best wines in the Dr. Konstantin Frank portfolio.  As you taste the wine, your server will share stories that unfold half a century and four generations of wine making in the Frank family.

The next stop is Heron Hill Winery where John and Jo Ingle have been producing quality Rieslings, Cabernets and other Finger Lakes varietals since 1977.   Enjoy a private tasting, followed by lunch in the Blue Heron Cafe featuring locally grown ingredients.

After lunch, we make our way to the east side of the lake, to experience the the progeny of European winemaking heritage and Finger Lakes training, that are establishing their own vision for quality wine making in the region.

At Weis Vineyards, Peter Weis, originally from Mosel, Germany creates wines in the Finger Lakes that are inspired by the similar climate and minerality of his native land. With either Peter, or his wife Ashlee, you will experience wines of distinctive character such as their Grüner Veltliner, Gewürtztraminer, and house speciality, Heart of the Lake, in their converted tasting in barn.

Price: $115.00 per person. This price includes the transportation, tasting fees, added services, lunch, and special food pairings. This tour is a public tour and requires a minimum of 5 total guests in order to run the tour at the listed price. Alternate touring options are available for tours that do not meet this minimum.

This tour, or the full day lunch tour version, is also available for groups of 5+ guests Sunday-Friday upon request. Please call 607-233-4818 if you are interested in this tour for your party.

The Fine Wines of Northwest Seneca Wine Tour

Once each month during the prime season, E!FLX heads up to Geneva to explore some of the best wines along the northwestern shores of Seneca Lake. Join us on this special full-day tour where you will discover top producers, explore their commitment to process when making their fine wines, and taste the end result in your glass with custom-designed tastings created to show off the unique expression of each winery and quality being produced along this section of Seneca Lake.

We start our day at Anthony Road Wine Company.  John and Ann Martini moved to Anthony Road in 1973 “at the urging of a friend that touted the joys of grape growing in the Finger Lakes”.  Over 40 years later, the second generation has fully vested themselves in the continuation of the quality foundation laid by their parents.  Meet members of this winemaking family, visit their on-premise garden and taste their stellar wines created by winemaker Peter Becraft paired with specially-crafted, farm-sourced food selections.

Next, we head over to Bellangelo on North Seneca to enjoy an alfresco casual lunch out on their deck with a stunning view of Seneca Lake.  Each guest will be able to choose from the selection of Bellangelo’s finely crafted wines to enjoy with the picnic fare provided via The Belhurst dining team.

After lunch, we make our way to Billsboro Winery for a memorable tasting experience.   Enjoy a private tasting in the winery’s wine library featuring the beautifully distinctive wines of winemaker and owner Vinny Aliperti.  We will showcase two of his wines paired with delicious chocolates  You may even have your tasting hosted by the chocolatier Cary Becraft who pours at Billsboro when she’s not making her amazing chocolates!

Our final stop of the day is Fox Run Vineyards.   Just as with the other stops on this tour, the wines of Fox Run Vineyards are recognized as some of the finest in the region.   Twenty-two years ago, owners Ruth and Scott Osborn, recognized the talent and skill of winemaker Peter Bell.   Since then, Peter has not only solidified the reputation of Fox Run for fine wine making, but has raised the entire bar of the region with his consulting skills and collaborative nature.  During the tasting, we will explore a carefully curated selection of Fox Run wines that demonstrates Peter’s quest for optimal expression, innovation and collaboration.

Price: $159.00 per person. This price includes the transportation, tasting fees, added services, lunch, and special food pairings. This tour is a public tour and requires a minimum of 5 total guests in order to run the tour at the listed price. Alternate touring options are available for tours that do not meet this minimum.

Halloween Treats and Tricks in the Historic Village

Mumford, October 9, 2018 - Halloween is coming to Genesee Country Village & Museum on October 26 and 27. This year, the museum will offer a variety of trick-or-treating experiences that appeal to kids of all ages. On Friday evening there will be tricks and treats for everyone to enjoy in the candle-lit Historic Village, plus tweens and teens can now boost the thrill factor as they gather around the campfire for marshmallow toasting and spine-tingling tales of the supernatural. Under cover of darkness, the village will play host to flashlight games and visits with some familiar characters from a galaxy far, far away. Face-painting stations will also get an upgrade to include custom henna art and faux wounds to add the final touch to any costume.

On Saturday afternoon the tricks take on a more lighthearted feel as kids collect treats from the village houses, including stops sporting allergy-aware teal pumpkins. Guests can enjoy not-so-spooky seasonal tales as they toast marshmallows around the campfire, get active playing games like “bat and moth,” visit the Glamour Girls face-painting station, and meet some intergalactic visitors. Guests for both days are encouraged to bring their own flashlights and candy bags to maximize their fun.

Advance tickets are available through the museum’s website, https://www.gcv.org/events/trick-or-treating/ and are valid for either day. Same-day tickets may be purchased at the door. Youth ages 1-17: $8/ Member Youth ages 1-17: $5. All children under the age of 1 and all adults accompanying children are free.

Johnston House Closes for the 2018 Season today

The historic Johnston House closes for the 2018 season on October 28, 2018. Built by John and Margaret Johnston in the 1820s, the Johnston House originally sat on an important farm where John Johnston became a well-known advocate of improved farming techniques. Johnston was the first American farmer to use soil drainage tiles to increase productivity on his farm, which was considered by some in the 19th century to be “the most important agricultural spot in America.”

Visitors are invited to explore the house on the self-guided tour, where they will learn about what it meant to live and work on a farm in the 1800s. The house features several period rooms, as well as exhibits on Technology and Innovation, Immigration, and Agriculture—themes which are connected to the Johnston family’s experience in the region. Incorporating interactive elements, books, artifacts and reproduction items, the displays also connect the story of the family to contemporary issues and concerns.

Visitors to the Johnston House can also see the Mike Weaver Drain Tile Museum on site, which displays an extensive collection of agricultural drain tile and associated farm equipment.

The Johnston House is open Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays, 1 to 5 p.m., through October 28. Admission is a suggested donation of $2 per person.

The Johnston House is located at 3523 East Lake Road at Route 96A, near Geneva, New York. The house is administered by the Geneva Historical Society, located at 543 South Main Street, Geneva. For more information about the Johnston House, visit www.genevahistoricalsociety.com. or call 315-789-5151, or 315-789-3848 between May 1 and October 31.

By connecting strangers who live across the street from each other, Albert Halaban’s expertly composed, beautifully rendered, large-scale photographs encourage viewers to take a fresh look at the people they see every day.

rose hill
Rose Hill Mansion's last day of the season

The Rose Hill Mansion will end the 2018 season on Wednesday, October 31. A Greek Revival mansion and National Historical Landmark, the house perches above Seneca Lake in the heart of the Finger Lakes.

Once a working farm, the house and surrounding grounds are open May to October for guided tours. Built in 1839, the elegant Greek Revival house was the center of a busy and productive farm at mid-century. Much of the guided tour focuses on the Swan family who lived there from 1850 to 1890. Through family letters, photographs, and diaries, visitors explore their joys and sorrows, and their interactions with neighbors and the many workers required to keep the large house and farm in working order. They discover how Robert Swan combined business methods of organization with scientific innovations like drain tile to make his farm more productive and profitable. Twenty rooms of the house are restored and furnished in the Empire style, popular from the 1820s to 1850s. The property also has a terrific view of Seneca Lake and nearby farmlands.

Rose Hill Mansion's Carriage House Gift Shop is open whenever the house is open. The shop carries historically-inspired and locally made items, as well as souvenirs, history books, jewelry and home decorative items.

Rose Hill Mansion is located at 3373 Route 96A, about a mile south of Routes 5&20, near Geneva, New York. The house is open May 1 to October 31, Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Closed Mondays. The last daily tour is at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and at 4:30 p.m. on Sundays. The grounds are open year round, free of charge.

Admission is by guided tour only and is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, and $6 for children 10 to 18. Children 9 and under are free. A family rate of $25 is available for two adults and one or more children aged 10 to 18 in the same household. Discounts offered for group tours. Reservations required for groups.

Rose Hill is administered by the Geneva Historical Society at 543 South Main Street, Geneva, New York. For more information about visiting Rose Hill call 315-789-3848. Information is also available at www.genevahistoricalsociety.com.
