The Art of Warner Bros. Cartoons at George Eastman Museum

For more than 80 years, Warner Bros. animation has been bringing joy to all ages. Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies in particular gave us some of the most iconic animated characters—Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, Tweety Bird, and more.

Animation is a complex process: from concept to sketching, drawing, and coloring, all before filming even begins. Yet, we usually only ever see the finished product. In The Art of Warner Bros. Cartoons, take a peek behind the scenes at sketches, model sheets, paintings, and animation cels that went into creating the famous films from the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s.

The beginnings of animation—before Warner Bros. and even before film—is also explored through a selection of objects from the museum’s collection. In addition to the original artifacts in the galleries, the exhibition includes 15 Warner Bros. animated shorts, played on a loop in the Curtis Theatre during museum hours.

No matter how you first experienced the classic animations—in the theater, at home on 8mm film or VHS, on television, or even online—this fascinating exhibition will delight with the laughs and lunacy of Warner Bros. cartoons.

Winner of Blown Away: Guest Artist Residency at the Corning Museum of Glass

See the winner of Blown Away work live at the Museum! The winner, Deborah Czeresko, will be returning to the Amphitheater Hot Shop for her Blown Away Residency, which was part of the prize package for the Netflix show. The show’s challenges encouraged all contestants to explore new concepts in glass. During her residency, Czeresko will revisit some of the ideas she first began playing with while participating in Blown Away. She will be at the Amphitheater Hot Shop three times as part of the residency: August 28-29, October 1-6, and October 14-18.

These demonstrations are free with the cost of admission (kids & teens 17 and under are free). Demonstrations are family friendly and narrated by the Museum’s Hot Glass team. While in the Amphitheater Hot Shop, visitors can check out the display Blown Away: Glassblowing Comes to Netflix, which tells the story of how the Museum found its way into the global spotlight.

Blown Away, the first-ever TV competition series featuring the art of glassblowing, is now streaming on Netflix. The show follows a group of 10 highly skilled glassmakers from North America who compete with each other to create the best glass artworks and are constricted by time, theme, and the material itself. The winner of Blown Away was awarded the “Blown Away Residency”, during which they will delve deeper into glassblowing projects through live demonstrations in the Amphitheater Hot Shop. The Corning Museum of Glass is a proud creative partner of Blown Away.

It’s a typical morning at Scranton’s third largest paper company until, for no logical reason, a documentary crew begins filming the lives of the employees of Dunder Mifflin…

Fall Festival & Agricultural Fair at Genesee Country Village

Genesee Country Village & Museum will be showing off the best of the local harvest scene at this year’s Fall Festival and Agricultural Fair, Saturday and Sunday, October 5-6. In the tradition of a classic county fair, the Museum will have entertainers, animal demonstrations, and cooking competitions, all in the picturesque Historic Village setting. An additional perk for families, kids ages 17 and under are free all weekend, making for a full day of entertainment that won’t break the bank.

On Saturday, local cooks will test their skills over an open fire at the Cast Iron Chef competition. Reigning champion Gary Giusti from Wegmans will try for a fourth win against two formidable new opponents, Eric Smith, owner of Original Stumpblower Ciderworks, and Paul Tweksbury, retired U.S. Navy. Visitors can watch the battle play out while tasting samples of the recipes being created.

There are plenty of entertainment options for families, including perennial favorites Punch and Judy as well as Signora Bella’s 19th century circus act, a magic show, and in the style of P.T. Barnum, the Museum of Oddities. The John L. Wehle Gallery will also be holding one of its popular Gatherings, where curatorial staff give an inside look at the Museum’s renowned antique clothing collection, illuminating the threads that connect fashion and culture across time periods.

New this year, Sandi Connelly and Jeff Mills from RIT’s College of Science will give an interactive talk on the history of agriculture, and how it is impacted by technology and science. What role will vegetable-based “meat” play in our future diets? Are GMOs dangerous? Hear the answers to these questions and more at a talk that looks to the past to inform the future.

In addition to enjoying the peak fall foliage, visitors can see antique farm equipment demonstrations, peruse entries in the arts and handiwork competitions, watch sheep herding as well as goat and poultry shows, and cheer on the teams competing for the Mayor’s Cup Base Ball Championship. Local products and companies will be showcased in the Imagine Monroe tent as well as the Market Tent, including local honey, ironworks from Spangler Forge, Katboocha kombucha, and much more, as part of one of the best farmer’s markets around.

Support for the Fall Festival and Agricultural Fair provided by Market New York through I LOVE NY/ New York State’s Division of Tourism as a part of the Regional Economic Development Council awards. Other event partners include Imagine Monroe, Wegmans, CP Ward, Bonduelle, and Stihl.

Museum hours are 10 am-5 pm on Saturday and 10 am-4 pm on Sunday. For more information, visit www.gcv.org or call 585-294-8218. Museum Admission for the Fall Festival & Agricultural Fair: $22; Students/Seniors: $19; kids 17 and under are FREE.

Fourth Generation Dairy Farm Hosts fourth annual family-focused Fall Festival at their Rock Stream farm on Saturday, October 5

Rock Stream, NY --  Shtayburne Farm is excited to announce they are bringing back their Fall Family Festival for a fourth year. This kid-focused event will be hosted by the Hostetler family on October 5, from 10:00am until 4:00pm, right on their family farm.

Shtayburne Farm is a working dairy farm on the west side of Seneca Lake just off State Route 14 in Rock Stream. The farm has been owned and operated by the Hostetler family for four generations, and is a Mennonite farm. The family began making farmstead cheese in 2010, and opened their farm store in November of that year. The Festival is being held to celebrate family, fall and farming.

"Our first Fall Family Festival was in 2015 to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the opening of our family Cheese Shop," said Lorin Hostetler, owner of the family-run dairy and its creamery, as well as head cheesemaker. "It was meant to be a one-time event. But we had so many requests to continue this family-centric event, well, we do! It's a great opportunity to share the harvest season and family values we hold dear with other families, neighbors and visitors to the farm."

The Festival will be held on the meticulous grounds of the farm, which is where the first Finger Lakes Cheese Festival was held in 2011. Under the big top, there will be several local vendors selling a cornucopia of fall favorites all day, including Side Hill Acres Goat Farm, who will be on hand with their award-winning goat cheeses, HIP Artisan Brands4J's NVR Specialty Sauces, Glenora Honey Co., FLX Artisan Foods and more. And of course, Shtayburne Farm will be sampling and selling their many varieties of cows' milk cheeses and a several different types of homemade baked goods.

And because this event is all about family, there will be many family and kid activities throughout the day including a petting zoo, kids games, pumpkin painting contest, hayrides and farm tours. "And of course, our big corn box, which is a huge hit with the little ones," adds Lorin. "And the S'mores Bar which was popular with -- well everyone!"

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:
10:00-4:00 Kids’ Games, Bounce House, Activities and Petting Zoo
10:00-4:00 Farm Store & Vendor Tent Open
10:00-3:00 Pumpkin Painting
11:00, 1:00 & 3:00 Hayrides
12:00 & 2:00 Guided Farm Tours
3:30 Pumpkin Decorating Contest Winners Announced

Admission to the Festival is free and includes farm tours, petting zoo, play area, big top admission and bounce house. Hayrides are just $1, and game & activity tickets are just 50 cents each.

"We can't thank our friends, neighbors and visitors enough for their support over the years, and really hope everyone can make it down to the farm for the Festival, whether for an hour or the whole day," invites Hostetler. "We've ordered some good fall weather for the day, too!"

No matter how you first experienced the classic animations—in the theater, at home on 8mm film or VHS, on television, or even online—this fascinating exhibition will delight with the laughs and lunacy of Warner Bros. cartoons.

October residency for Blown Away winner

Samantha Buyskes (creator of the meals enjoyed at our inaugural event in June) will be working with chefs from Nolan’s, Simply Crepes, Café Sol, New York Kitchen, Newbury Park Pastries and Lake to Lake Meats to create an evening of regionally-sourced, comfortable and delicious food. Heron Hill, Young Lion Brewing, Star Cider and The Dalai Java will be pouring.

[Zero Waste] means that we’re working to make this evening kind to the environment, so please bring your own reusable tableware and drinkware! It’s a fun way to express yourself, and reduce post-consumer waste. Need inspiration or accessories? Consider Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore!

Join us as we gather together to share in the harvest, relax after a long, successful summer and get to know the masterminds behind some of our region’s favorite flavors!
