The Art of Warner Bros. Cartoons at George Eastman Museum

For more than 80 years, Warner Bros. animation has been bringing joy to all ages. Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies in particular gave us some of the most iconic animated characters—Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, Tweety Bird, and more.

Animation is a complex process: from concept to sketching, drawing, and coloring, all before filming even begins. Yet, we usually only ever see the finished product. In The Art of Warner Bros. Cartoons, take a peek behind the scenes at sketches, model sheets, paintings, and animation cels that went into creating the famous films from the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s.

The beginnings of animation—before Warner Bros. and even before film—is also explored through a selection of objects from the museum’s collection. In addition to the original artifacts in the galleries, the exhibition includes 15 Warner Bros. animated shorts, played on a loop in the Curtis Theatre during museum hours.

No matter how you first experienced the classic animations—in the theater, at home on 8mm film or VHS, on television, or even online—this fascinating exhibition will delight with the laughs and lunacy of Warner Bros. cartoons.

1886 Wine and Food Experience - Barrel Series Experience
Barrel Series Experience at Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery

Barrel Series Experience

August 2019
Location: 1886 Reserve Room

Available Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 11 AM and 2 PM.

The tour begins at the Dr. Konstantin Frank winery where we head underground to our barrel cellar. Here you will learn the process of barrel production, the different types of oak and where they originate from, and alternatives to barrel aging with amphora. We will taste two wines, one unoaked and one oaked, to explore the differences between them, and taste current vintage wines aging in barrel. At the conclusion of the tour, a seated flight of wines are paired with the chef’s seasonal bites where you taste wines that have aged in barrel of varying levels of new oak and time.

Please arrive at our 1886 Reserve Tasting Room at least 5 minutes before the starting time of the event. Just south of the main winery and tasting rooms is the stone house named Chateau Frank. Once you pull into the driveway and park, walk towards the rear of the building and you will see stairs leading up to the 1886 Reserve Room. The event will feature some walking in our vineyards, so we suggest wearing suitable shoes.

Veraison & Harvest Experience at Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery

Veraison & Harvest Experience

September 2019
Location: 1886 Reserve Room

Available Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 11 AM and 2 PM.

Undoubtedly the most beautiful time in the vineyard where the green grapes change to shades of yellow and red. The tour begins with a hands-on grape sampling exercise where we figure out the ripeness of a vineyard block. A wine educator explains the internal changes of a grape during veraison and considerations leading up to the decision to start harvesting. We will explain the difference of hand-picking versus machine-picking and why technology plays a major part. Depending on the harvest timeline, a demonstration of hand-sorting and pressing may be possible. At the conclusion of the tour, a seated flight of wines are paired with the chef’s seasonal creative bites.

1886 Wine and Food Experience - Veraison & Harvest Experience

No matter how you first experienced the classic animations—in the theater, at home on 8mm film or VHS, on television, or even online—this fascinating exhibition will delight with the laughs and lunacy of Warner Bros. cartoons.

No matter how you first experienced the classic animations—in the theater, at home on 8mm film or VHS, on television, or even online—this fascinating exhibition will delight with the laughs and lunacy of Warner Bros. cartoons.

1886 Wine and Food Experience - Veraison & Harvest Experience

KeyBank Rochester Fringe Festival

Rochester loves the Fringe.

In 2012, the KeyBank Rochester Fringe Festival debuted, attracting more than 30,000 attendees and exceeding all expectations big and small. For 2013, over 50,000 people from the Greater Rochester area, all fifty states, and around the globe attended more than 360 shows in 28 venues in and around downtown Rochester. The third Fringe in 2014 drew more than 60,000 visitors, and featured CIRCUS ORANGE’s spectacular TRICYCLE public show as well as the epic SPOON RIVER ROCHESTER and the return of the Crystal Palace Spiegeltent. Skipping ahead to 2016, we celebrated Fringe 6 with attendance at more than 68,000 visitors in over 25 venues with 500+ performances and events.

Fringe 2017 and 2018 continued this growth, drawing 78,000 attendees to downtown Rochester to see hundreds of shows that ranged from the incredible Plasticiens Volants in BIG BANG to the intimate, close-up theatre of DASHBOARD DRAMAS. 2018’s Fringe brought the ART to the pARTy with acts like MASSAOKE, SHOTSPEARE, ARTAWAKE and more.

Rave reviews continue to pour in from critics, news outlets, social, bloggers and festival goers alike. In fact, Rochester’s Fringe has become one of the largest and most successful fringe festivals in the nation—and one of Rochester’s newest, biggest and most anticipated festivals.

Americana Vineyards Winery to host first ever Americana Countryfest this September

Interlaken, NY) Americana Vineyards Winery, in partnership with Q-Country 103.7, is excited to announce their first ever Americana Countryfest country music festival on Saturday, September 14 from 1:30pm to 9:30pm on the beautiful grounds of the winery located in Interlaken, NY – just north of Ithaca on the west side of Cayuga Lake.

Americana has always supported local music, hosting bands every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, along with special music events like their 4th of July Birthday BBQ Bash, but this is their first foray into the local country music scene.

“We noticed a surprising lack of shows for this genre locally, and wanted to give country music fans a way to enjoy this music without having to go to a big ticket venue,” explained the winery’s charismatic owner, Joseph S. Gober, Jr. “And conversely, we wanted to give these terrific bands another venue option to put on their shows, and get their music out to the public. So what better place than our backyard, which already has a proven track record for concerts and entertainment?”

The festival is eight hours of continuous music featuring popular country bands from throughout the Finger Lakes.

The show kicks off with CNY’s Donna & The Mystics who will be playing “rocking country” – a blend of new country, 50s and 60s faves, classic and southern rock to get the dance floor hopping from 1:30-3:30. Founded in 1984, this NYS Country Music Hall Of Fame band consists of four talented, nationally- and regionally-acclaimed musicians and plays to packed venues throughout New York, Pennsylvania and country capital Branson, Missouri.

Then, Jason Wicks takes the stage from 3:30-5:30 with a mix of original music influenced by iconic country artists like George Strait, Merle Haggard and Jerry Reed, along with a nice dose of today’s hot country sounds like Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan. You may have caught this Nashville recording artist and songwriter playing to standing room only crowds in clubs, taverns and casino venues all around Central New York near his Afton, NY ranch, or maybe opening for top national country acts like Blackberry Smoke, Matt Gary, Blaine Larsen, Andy Griggs, Clint Black and Wynonna Judd.

Groton’s own Chasing Neon is up next from 5:30-7:30. Chasing Neon is the newest project from former Small Town Shade frontman Nicholas Stark with lead singer and guitarist Scott Marlette, and will offer festivalgoers a great modern country sound with a blend of today’s country, driving originals and classic rock.

The festival wraps up with the very popular Cortland-based Tink Bennett & Tailor Made from 7:30-9:30. This band has been performing in the Central New York area and beyond for over 30 years, and have opened for Lady Antebellum, Charlie Daniels, Josh Thompson, Sammy Kershaw and Molly Hatchett a few. Their blend of hot country with a bit of classic rock will have everyone dancing right to the end of the festival.

Americana’s media partner Q-Country, 103.7 out of Ithaca is helping to get the word out to country fans about this exciting new festival, which will also include food trucks and other local vendors as part of the festivities, along with a blind draw cornhole tournament. Radio personalities from Q-Country will be on hand, announcing the bands and doing contests and giveaways. Tickets to the festival are just $15 in advance, and available August 1, by calling the winery at 607.387.6801. At the gate, the day of the show, tickets will be $17.50 each (kids under 13 free). In addition, Q-Country 103.7 will be giving away tickets to their listeners leading up to the event.

"There’ll be tons of great food, drink, and fun to go along with a great day of country music that spans the entire spectrum of the genre," said Gober. "So feel free to bring your chairs, blankets, and even pop-ups and set up for the whole day. And definitely, do not forget your dancing shoes – or in this case, boots!" A full schedule of festivities and updates are be available on Americana's website and the Winery's Facebook page.

No matter how you first experienced the classic animations—in the theater, at home on 8mm film or VHS, on television, or even online—this fascinating exhibition will delight with the laughs and lunacy of Warner Bros. cartoons.

1886 Wine and Food Experience - Veraison & Harvest Experience

No matter how you first experienced the classic animations—in the theater, at home on 8mm film or VHS, on television, or even online—this fascinating exhibition will delight with the laughs and lunacy of Warner Bros. cartoons.

Thrilling audiences for over 20 years, this group of maniac musicians brings back the great sounds from the 50’s, 60’s, and some newer classics.

Festival appearances verify the demographics as anyone from 8 to 80. Good old rock and roll with a high energy delivery. Although this group does perform in bars and nightclubs, the big stage is where they are most comfortable.

No matter how you first experienced the classic animations—in the theater, at home on 8mm film or VHS, on television, or even online—this fascinating exhibition will delight with the laughs and lunacy of Warner Bros. cartoons.

1886 Wine and Food Experience - Veraison & Harvest Experience

No matter how you first experienced the classic animations—in the theater, at home on 8mm film or VHS, on television, or even online—this fascinating exhibition will delight with the laughs and lunacy of Warner Bros. cartoons.

1886 Wine and Food Experience - Veraison & Harvest Experience

Bach
Sebastian Bach 30th Anniversary Tour

Sebastian Bach performs the first record “Skid Row” in its ENTIRETY!

Revered vocal powerhouse SEBASTIAN BACH will celebrate the 30th anniversary of SKID ROW’s acclaimed, self-titled breakout debut album with a U.S. Tour where he’ll be performing the record in its entirety plus other songs from his celebrated catalog. The tour will kick off in Nashville, TN on August 30th and will end in Pinellas Park, FL on November 2nd.

In a statement from BACH: “In 1989 we put out the first record ‘Skid Row’. 30 years later, people still dig the music we created in a garage all those years ago. In commemoration of this 30th Anniversary digital deluxe release, my band is going to perform the first Skid Row record, in its entirety, on the road, LIVE this fall! It’s going to be fun to do something that has never been done live before! We are looking forward to seeing you all for this one time event! Note: This concert is 100% live in every way! All real! All the time! No tapes! No fakes! Come and see a real rock band while they still exist! We give it to you straight from the heart ‘cuz that’s the only way we know how! See you on the road!”

Released in the winter of 1989, SKID ROW’s self-titled record is one of heavy rock’s most successful debut albums, landing in Billboard’s Top 10 and going on to sell millions of copies around the world. The record transformed the band from local New Jersey quintet into a global phenomenon whose rebellious attitude and jaw-dropping talent set the bar and tone for rock music in the late 80’s and early 90’s.

SKID ROW’s singles, “18 and Life,” “Youth Gone Wild” and “I Remember You,” are among the decade’s most recognizable rock anthems that still receive heavy airplay on radio stations across the country. The group again achieved commercial success with its second record Slave to the Grind (1991) certified
multi-platinum, reaching number one on the Billboard 200.

No matter how you first experienced the classic animations—in the theater, at home on 8mm film or VHS, on television, or even online—this fascinating exhibition will delight with the laughs and lunacy of Warner Bros. cartoons.

1886 Wine and Food Experience - Veraison & Harvest Experience
