Events take place all year round in the Finger Lakes region. From lakeside (and on the lake) events in the summer to harvest activities in the fall, snowmobiling or snowshoeing in the winter, and festivals in the springtime! Step inside a glassmaker’s studio to blow your own glass, stroll Main Street on a food tour, or gather for live music and theater performances. Browse the list of Finger Lakes events below or search the specific dates you will be visiting to see everything going on in the region.

Great Events that Happen Every Year

Below, you will find dozens of great events happening throughout the year with many of them happening annually. If you have memories of favorite annual Finger Lakes events from childhood such as cardboard boat regattas, hot air balloon festivals, cheese, apple or pumpkin festivals, to name a few, it’s likely that event that still takes place or, has likely improved your enjoyment. If you see a special event that piques your interest but can’t make it, click on the event anyway, it might be coming back next year!

FRAM + AUTO
FARM + AUTO, art show curated by Lindsey Glover

FARM + AUTO
Curated by Lindsey Glover
Opening event: Saturday evening, February 11, 2023,6:00 to 8:00 pm
Free to attend, Wine and light refreshments served

Featuring work from a diverse group of creators, this show explores our connection to the land through the lens of the farm and/or the automobile. Participating artists include Orlando Arriaga, Michael Ashkin, Kenneth C. Burkhart, Carrie Chalmers, Lindsey Glover, Christina Leung, Jerry Lim, Joseph Podlesnik and Constance Saltonstall.  Show runs through March 24, with gallery hours on Fridays and Sundays, 1-5pm.

FARM + AUTO is a contemplation of the changing socio-economic landscape in America, fueled by the Industrial Revolution that gave us the automobile and, in turn, aspirations for a different kind of life. In this collection of photographs, sculptures, and artifacts, we explore the impact of modernization on America’s agricultural heritage, consider the evolution of deeply American ideals of freedom and personal liberty, and redirect attention to the high environmental costs of this shift.

A collage of handmade pottery from Handwork's Winter Seconds Sale.
Winter Seconds Sale at Handwork

February 16th to March 8th
Enjoy a wide range of discounts on handcrafted pottery, fiber, jewelry, woodwork, glass, wall art and more at Handwork Co-op's Winter Seconds Sale.

What's on Sale:
☀️ Artist's Seconds that are slightly imperfect, still full of charm, and totally unique, beautiful items.
☀️ Overstock items that are priced to sell. Including work from our local artists, from New York State artists and beyond.

We often get a question: "What makes this an artist's second? I don't see what's wrong with it!"

While it's true many of the seconds in our sale have minor imperfections, some of the items are overstock or come from an old collection of artists' work, and some items are experimental works of art. That's the fun of our second sale! You never know what you'll find, but you can surely find something beautiful at a great price.

Handwork, Ithaca's Artisan Cooperative is located in downtown Ithaca at 102 West State Street. Our store hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 am to 6 pm, and Sunday 11 am to 5 pm.

📧 Our sale is in-store only but we offer more than one way to shop: E-mail our staff at HandworkOnlineShop@gmail.com to request photos of our shelves and shop the sale from afar.

Drawing of Taughannock Falls from the 19th century
Taughannock Folklore

Host Tony Ingraham reads and illustrates legends and stories about Taughannock Falls before it was a state park in this encore episode 197 of Walk in the Park (from 2018). Find out about who Taughannock was, the “door” in the falls, the Taughannock Giant, and other “facts and fancies,” as author Margaret Badger called them in New York Folklore Quarterly in 1963. (Ingraham notes that stories that involve indigenous people at Taughannock may or may not have some roots in Haudenosaunee culture or history, but that they certainly have come to us via the pens of non-Indian people; and in some cases may have been been made up entirely or embellished for the entertainment of tourists at the hotels that once were perched near the rims of Taughannock Gorge in the 1800s.}

Walk in the Park is produced by Owl Gorge Productions, a partner business in the Finger Lakes Tourism Alliance.

Tap into the history of maple sugaring in NY State at Genesee Country Village & Museum’s Maple Sugar Festival,, coming up March 18, 19, 25 and 26.
Tap into the history of maple sugaring this March at Genesee Country Village & Museum’s annual Maple Sugar Festival

In celebration of the return of maple sugaring season in New York State, Genesee Country Village & Museum will host its annual Maple Sugar Festival on Saturday and Sunday, March 18 - 19, and Saturday and Sunday, March 25 - 26. Explore a modern-day sugarhouse where fresh syrup is boiling, then journey into a 19th-century sugar camp staffed by costumed historical interpreters to learn about the techniques and tools used by early settlers used to collect sap and make maple sugar. Head into the Historic Village to see maple sugar used in historic kitchens, sausage making, timber sports with representatives from SUNY ESF, Hodinöhsö:ni’ (Haudenosaunee) cultural traditions and storytelling, and more. From the Nature Center to the Historic Village, visitors will explore all aspects of a New York staple: maple syrup. Tickets are available now at https://www.gcv.org/event/maple-sugar-festival/.

Follow the history of maple sugaring in New York State

Visitors to the Maple Sugar Festival can tap into the history of maple in the 19th century by following the tap lines from sugar maple trees along the Maple History Trail to the Sugarhouse at GCV&M’s Nature Center. See how the wood-fired evaporator transforms fresh, clear sap into thick, amber maple syrup and learn from GCV&M naturalists about the tree tapping process and history of sap collection. Plus, learn about sugar maples and the collection techniques employed to keep the sugar bush sustainable.

Indulge in sweet treats and savory snacks

Foodies will delight in opportunities to sample, savor, and indulge in all things maple at this year’s Maple Sugar Festival. Enjoy a Pancake Plate (think a “garbage plate,” but maple-themed!) to fuel up for the day’s adventures, purchase historic maple-themed confections in the D.B. Munger & Co. Confectionery, grab a maple-themed hot snack or beverage in the Depot Restaurant, and wash it all down with a Rohrbach’s Griddle Cake Ale, on tap in the Freight House Pub. Plus, visit the Flint Hill Store to find maple products made with syrup tapped at Genesee Country Village & Museum.

Explore uses of maple sugar in the Historic Village

Explore the Historic Village to find kitchen fires roaring, and costumed historical tradespeople sharing insight into life in 19th century New York. Stop in to see the village cooper, blacksmith, and cooks working over open hearths; explore historic homes alive with activity; and visit animals on the pioneer farmstead. Visitors will have the

opportunity to watch timber sport demonstrations with representatives from SUNY ESF and watch a sugar maple tapping demonstration on the Village Square. ASL interpretation will be offered for select programming.

Experience Hodinöhsö:ni’ (Haudenosaunee) cultural traditions

With the help of guest performers and storytellers such as Perry Ground, Ronnie Reitter, Tonia Galban, and the Indigenous Spirit Dancers, visitors to Maple Sugar Festival will have the opportunity to explore Hodinöhsö:ni’ (Haudenosaunee) cultural traditions and storytelling related to maple sugaring season.

Tickets on sale now

Purchase a standard festival ticket for access to all activities associated with the Maple Sugar Festival, or sweeten the  visit with a stop in the Meeting Center for a Pancake Plate (three pancakes and three sausages smothered in Museum-made maple syrup, plus tasty treats at a toppings bar). Tickets for the Maple Syrup Festival are now available online now at gcv.org.

Find all upcoming event listings and more information at https://www.gcv.org/events/. Support for the Maple Sugar Festival is provided by a Market New York grant awarded to GCV&M from I LOVE NY/ New York State’s Division of Tourism through the Regional Economic Development Council initiative.

Springerles
Baking: Springerles

One of our most popular classes!

Explore the mystery of making springerles – those beautifully embossed cookies. Learn the technique of making a crisply stamped design that lasts through the baking process, then hand paint your cookies with natural colors! Take home a batch of assorted stamped cookies and your own wooden, hand-casted springerles mold. Participants should bring baking sheets and an apron.

Host Tony Ingraham reads and illustrates legends and stories about Taughannock Falls before it was a state park in this encore episode 197 of Walk in the Park (from 2018). Find out about who Taughannock was, the “door” in the falls, the Taughannock Giant, and other “facts and fancies,” as author Margaret Badger called them in New York Folklore Quarterly in 1963. (Ingraham notes that stories that involve indigenous people at Taughannock may or may not have some roots in Haudenosaunee culture or history, but that they certainly have come to us via the pens of non-Indian people; and in some cases may have been been made up entirely or embellished for the entertainment of tourists at the hotels that once were perched near the rims of Taughannock Gorge in the 1800s.}

Walk in the Park is produced by Owl Gorge Productions, a partner business in the Finger Lakes Tourism Alliance.
