Finger Lakes Events Calendar

Festivals, Happy Hour, Live Music, Theatre, and More!

It doesn’t matter what your interests are or who you’re in the Finger Lakes with, you can always find a great event to enrich your time in the region with those you care about.

Events take place all year round in the Finger Lakes region. From lakeside (and on the lake) events in the summer to harvest activities in the fall, snowmobiling or snowshoeing in the winter, and festivals in the springtime! Step inside a glassmaker’s studio to blow your own glass, stroll Main Street on a food tour, or gather for live music and theater performances. Browse the list of Finger Lakes events below or search the specific dates you will be visiting to see everything going on in the region.

Great Events that Happen Every Year

Below, you will find dozens of great events happening throughout the year with many of them happening annually. If you have memories of favorite annual Finger Lakes events from childhood such as cardboard boat regattas, hot air balloon festivals, cheese, apple or pumpkin festivals, to name a few, it’s likely that event that still takes place or, has likely improved your enjoyment. If you see a special event that piques your interest but can’t make it, click on the event anyway, it might be coming back next year!

Events Added Daily

Make sure to check back frequently to see if any other great events have been added. Events are added daily by businesses from every sector and interest so if there is nothing that sparks your interest now, there very well could be soon!

Living History at Ganondagan

Ganondagan State Historic Site in Victor, NY (18 miles southeast of Rochester) is the only state park in New York devoted entirely to indigenous American history and culture. Walk in the Park visited Ganondagan on September 21, 2019 for their annual Living History Day, with Haudenosaunee people dressed in 17th century dress explaining the history and ways of Ganondagan and their people at that time. This takes place in the full-scale bark longhouse. In their museum, the Seneca Art and Culture Center, Friends of Ganondagan demonstrate ancient arts and skills, while others demonstrate traditional cooking, archery and other life crafts in stations near the longhouse. Described as “part Mr. Wizard and part Mr. Rogers”, Doktor Kaboom uses the excitement of rocketry to present Newton’s Laws of Motion in multiple, over-the-top, demonstrations. Each of Newton’s 3 laws is clearly explained, comically demonstrated, and followed by a DIY project that students can do as a class, in groups, or individually. 3 Laws, 3 lessons, 3 projects! A Literature to Life® stage presentation of:

Fahrenheit 451
By Ray Bradbury
Performed by Rich Orlow
Adapted by Wynn Handman

Guy Montag, is a fireman in a not-so distant future. But instead of putting out fires, he starts them in order to burn books. Ray Bradbury’s vision of a world, awash in information, but lacking critical thought offers audiences a sobering look at our world, while offering hope for a better future. A solo actor tells the story from the perspective of the protagonist, Montag, and seamlessly transitions between the five other primary characters.

Frozen Cayuga Lake at Taughannock Falls State Park
Did Cayuga Lake Freeze?

It may be hard to imagine during this mild winter, but February 2015 was the coldest month on record in the Ithaca area, in New York’s beautiful Finger Lakes region. And that winter was the first time Cayuga Lake came close to freezing over end-to-end since 1979. In this encore 100th episode of Walk in the Park, let’s take a look at the evidence of Cayuga Lake’s freeze, from land and sky, and even from space!

Walk in the Park is a commercial-free, public access television series produced in Ithaca NY for cablecast on Ithaca channel 13, and online by Owl Gorge Productions, publisher of the national award winning book, "A Walk Through Watkins Glen: Water's Sculpture in Stone.”

Artist Reception - Marika Chew at Museum of the Earth

Join us for an intimate artist reception celebrating the talent and creativity of Marika Chew. Mingle with the artist herself, and insight into her inspirations and techniques. Indulge in light refreshments as you appreciate the beauty and depth of each piece, and perhaps even find a new treasure to adorn your home. Don't miss this chance to connect with some of the vibrant artistic community here in Tompkins county in an evening filled with conversation, culture, and creativity.

This show focuses on celebrating the natural world found here in New York State. All of the animals are local to the area, from ones you could potentially find in your own backyard like the Cedar Waxwing or Eastern Cottontail Rabbit, to more elusive wildlife, such as the Wood Duck or Gray Wolf. It also features three new pieces in her ongoing New York State collection series including New York Wildflowers, Fish, and of course, Fossils!

About the Artist:

Marika Chew creates watercolors of pattern-filled animals and plants. She grew up in Ithaca New York and returned to the region after receiving a BFA in Illustration from the Maryland Institute College of Art. World textile designs, folk art, and Art Nouveau motifs are the primary influences on her work. She likes to let the personality of each animal determine the patterns used in the paintings - choosing bold florals for a bird’s plumage or lace and embroidery designs for an insect’s wing. Each of her pieces starts as a detailed pencil sketch and her watercolors are the result of many layers of paint, working from the large shapes to the final pattern-work and outlines using a number of very tiny brushes.More of Marika’s work can be found on her website: marikachew.com or on Instagram @marika_chew.

No cost to the reception, visitors can pay regular admission to visit the rest of the Museum.
