Americana Vineyards and The Crystal Lake Cafe to co-host Taste of Fall

Nov 04th, 2013

(Interlaken, NY) Americana Vineyards Winery and the Crystal Lake Café are proud to announce their first-ever harvest dinner, Taste of Fall, on Tuesday, November 19. The five-course dinner will highlight the fall flavors of the Finger Lakes, using many local and seasonal products and produce in its from-scratch preparation the Café is famous for. Each course will be paired with an Americana wine, local hard cider, beer and spirits.

Winery owner Joe Gober explains. "Our Café grows many of their own ingredients right here on the winery grounds, and  we also have wonderful neighbors growing and producing some of the best foods in the Finger Lakes. We've always been a big supporter of these neighboring producers, and we want to use this dinner to highlight what can happen when local farms and businesses work together to support each other."

Chef Lindsay Freeman goes on to explain the theory of terroir. "It's a well known and widely practiced principle in the Finger Lakes that what grows together, goes together. Food and beverages that share the same soil, growing conditions and climate naturally pair well. This dinner will demonstrate how well all these local flavors blend -- from the produce that grew beside the grapes and grains, that grew by the grass that fed the goats who produced the milk for the cheese, the cows whose milk became ice cream and the livestock that went on to become pork and poultry."

The dinner will begin at 6:00pm and will be a leisurely three-hour exploration through the depth and breadth of the Region's harvest flavors.

"We're hosting the dinner on a Tuesday night so our guests can be relaxed and laid back without the pressure of a weekend to hurry up and squeeze in as many things as possible," Chef Lindsay notes. "And for our kitchen staff, normally we're closed on Tuesdays during the late fall and winter, so this gives us the whole day without distractions to create this one great meal."

The tentative menu is posted below, and is subject to change based on availability of local products.

People interested in attending the Taste of Fall should call the winery at 1-607-387-6801 to hold their reservations with a credit card as soon as possible, as the dinner is limited to 50 guests in order to keep the dinner intimate. Tickets are $75 a person, and are available by advance purchase only.

"We consider ourselves very lucky to live and work in such a bountiful area, and can't wait to share this evening with a special group of foodies and friends who will really appreciate how well all these flavors go together to create an amazing dining experience," concludes Joe, who is known Region wide as a staunch locavore and consummate host.

About Americana Vineyards Winery and Crystal Lake Café:

Americana Vineyards Winery is a destination winery located 15 minutes north of Ithaca, New York right off Cayuga Lake in the center of New York’s Finger Lakes Wine Region at 4367 East Covert Road in Interlaken. Americana opened in 1981, and is a founding member and anchor winery for the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail. The Winery added an additional facility in 1999 for private parties, and Crystal Lake Café in 2006, a from-scratch café for year-round dining -- including their popular Sunday Brunch. Americana is the only winery in the area to host two year-round musical series: Friday Night Happy Hour from 6:00pm-8:00pm and Sunday Afternoon Music from 4:00pm-6:00pm. During warm weather the bands play in the Pavilion on the back lawn, and in cold or inclement weather, they play in the “Small Barn.” Americana produces 26 wines, many of which are nationally and internationally acclaimed, including their Chardonnay, which recently took Double Gold at the Florida International Wine Competition. Americana and the Café are members of the Finger Lakes Culinary Bounty, and supporters of many local causes including animal rights and elimating childhood hunger.
