March 28, 2019 (GENEVA, N.Y.) — Today, Belhurst is excited to announce the release of its new craft beer, brewed under the name Mabel’s Oat Soda Co. Three varieties – Honey Blonde, New England IPA and Porter – are now available for craft beer tastings and in 4-packs and growlers in the Wine & Gift Shop. Pints will be served in Stonecutters Tavern and Edgar’s Steakhouse at Belhurst.
“We started the journey to bring our own craft beer to our customers and guests a little over a year ago, and I’m thrilled that today we’re officially offering it property-wide,” said Kristine Fiorilla, Wine & Gift Shop Manager, Belhurst. “Our customers can order a pint with lunch in Stonecutters and then purchase a 4-pack or growler to take home with them in the Wine & Gift Shop.”
A journey to craft beer it was. Belhurst partnered with Critz Farms Brewing & Cider Co., a small farm brewery and winery in Cazenovia, NY. Critz Farms will brew exclusively for Belhurst and grow the ingredients for the beer on their farm.
Next came the unique name Mabel’s Oat Soda Co., an important meaning to Belhurst owners, Deb and Duane Reeder. The historic restaurant in the castle, Edgar’s Steakhouse is named after Duane’s father, Edgar Reeder. When it came time to decide on a name for the beer, the hops aligned and Duane’s mother’s name, Mabel was thrown into the mix. Back in 1910 when Mabel was born, Oat Soda was common slang for home brewed beer. To honor her and continue the historic foundation Belhurst is known for, the Mabel’s Oat Soda Co. brand was created.
“We could not be more excited to debut Mabel’s Oat Soda Co. craft beer in our restaurants and Wine & Gift Shop,” said Deb and Duane Reeder, owners of Belhurst. “Now customers who enjoy craft beer can find it at Belhurst in addition to our award-winning Belhurst wine collection.”
