The season is in full swing at Genesee Country Village & Museum with upcoming special events, hands-on experiences, new exhibitions, fun for families, and more.
Join us for the Celtic Faire on Saturday and Sunday, June 12 and 13, complete with traditional music, food, and heritage. Hear the Gates Keystone Police Pipes & Drums and Rochester Scottish Pipes & Drums, enjoy lively performances by local Irish dance troupes, sit with clan experts, and see Highland cows and sheep herding demonstrations. Back by popular demand are the Highland games, featuring local groups taking the field including the Buffalo Heavies, Roc City Hurling, and Roc City Camogie. Explore the Museum grounds while you celebrate the traditions of the Scots, Irish, Welsh, and other Celtic nations.
Visit the Museum on Saturday, June 19, as we honor Juneteenth, considered to be the oldest celebration of the end of enslavement in the U.S. – and a newly-recognized official holiday in New York. The event will focus on the everyday lives of Black Americans living in Western New York at the time of emancipation – seeking to reunite with family members scattered across the country, establishing businesses, and building relationships. Guest interpreters and presenters will include Cheyney McKnight, founder of Not Your Momma’s History; David Shakes, Artistic Director for North Star Players, award winning storyteller and performance artist Almeta Whitis; and Rev. James H. Evans, Jr., PH.D, LITT.D -- Professor Emeritus at Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School, teacher at St. John Fisher College, and President Elect of the American Theological Society.
Plan a day away with the family on Sunday, June 20, for Father’s Day. The Museum will be offering free admission for fathers and children 3 years and younger, as well as a full day of hands-on activities for families. Enjoy games on the Village Square, a double-header of men’s baseball, and a fishing excursion to the Museum’s own Lake Surprise (separate registration and fee required).
Tickets for these events are currently available via www.gcv.org. Pre-registration is not required, but tickets are limited and will be available online and day-of at the door, until events are sold out.
With a full schedule of special events on weekends, plus demonstrations and activities during the week, Genesee Country Village & Museum will be bustling with fun for all ages in June. The Museum is open Wednesdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. General admission is $18 for adults; $15 for seniors (62+); $12 for youth (3 – 12); and free for children 2 and under.
