2017 Semi-Dry Riesling: Double Gold, Best in Class, 94 Points

The International Eastern Wine Competition (IEWC), launched in 1975, is one of the oldest and longest running wine competitions in the nation. Running concurrently with IEWC is the West Coast Wine Competition (WCWC), established in 1982, which recognizes wines produced and bottled in the West.  Both competitions are open to all domestic and internationally produced wines according to regional destinations. Traditional awards are given in each division followed by a head-to-head “East Meets West” competition between IEWC and WCWC Best of Show wines. A Riesling Challenge is also held in each division to award a best Eastern Riesling and a best Western Riesling.

In 2019, there were 68 East Coast wineries competing with 378 wines, 31 of which received Best of Class awards. Chateau LaFayette was awarded two of only three Best of Class honors given to Finger Lakes wines and won the Eastern Riesling Challenge.

According to event owner, Debra Del Fiorentino, “This year, we got so many new wineries that have never entered our wine competitions before. We had a 29% increase in the number of east coast entries. “ Chateau LaFayette Reneau winemaker Tim Miller commented, “I am thrilled with the results of this year’s competition given the increase in the number of wine entries in 2019 and I am grateful to be working with such a dedicated vineyard and winery team allowing us to produce world-class Finger Lakes Rieslings. ”

Chateau LaFayette Reneau is located on the west-facing, gentle slopes of beautiful Seneca Lake in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York, our 110-acre estate receives optimal sunlight and air movement, ideal for consistently full-flavored grapes. For more than 30 years, Chateau LaFayette Reneau has produced estate-grown vinifera wines and received countless accolades and awards, including three Governor’s Cups, five coveted Jefferson Cups, and Gold from Riesling du Monde.
