Dr. Konstantin Frank 2012 Dry Riesling Wins Sweepstakes Award

Hammondsport, New York – April 19, 2013 – Dr. Konstantin Frank Wine Cellars has received a great deal of acclaim for its 2012 Dry Riesling since its release earlier this year.  Most recently, the Dr. Frank 2012 Dry Riesling won the “Sweepstakes Award” at the U.S. National Wine Competition.  The “Sweepstakes Award” is given to the wine deemed by wine judges to be the best overall wine at the competition.

The U.S. National Wine Competition, lead by the Vineyard and Winery Management Group of Santa Rosa, California, is a national wine competition that recognizes excellence in winemaking by awarding medals to wines produced in any of the fifty United States.  Winery president, Fred Frank, noted, “We are honored to receive the Sweepstakes Award for our Dry Riesling which has just been released. This is further proof of Riesling’s potential in the Finger Lakes.”  The Chateau Frank 2007 Blanc de Noirs and Célèbre also won gold medals at the competition.  Chateau Frank is the sister winery of Dr. Konstantin Frank Wine Cellars and produces sparkling wine.

Other awards for the Dr. Frank 2012 Dry Riesling this year include a “93 Point” rating and Gold Medal from the Beverage Testing Institute World Wine Championships, a Double Gold Medal from the International Eastern Wine Competition and Gold Medal from the San Diego International Wine Competition.  The excellent 2012 growing season along with a world class team of winemakers at Dr. Frank’s can be attributed to the amount of acclaim the Dr. Frank 2012 Dry Riesling has received so far this year.

Now in its fourth generation, Dr. Konstantin Frank Wine Cellars continues as New York’s most award-winning winery since 1962.  Located on Keuka Lake a few miles north of Hammondsport, Dr. Konstantin Frank Vinifera Wine Cellars has long been associated with the New York wine revolution. Its founder, Dr. Konstantin Frank, helped pioneer the introduction of the European vitis vinifera grapevines in the eastern United States. For his contributions in the American wine industry he was inducted into the Wine Spectator’s “Hall of Fame.”
