Sep 18th, 2019

Nichols, N.Y. – Fainting Goat Island Inn in Nichols, N.Y. has been voted the #2 Haunted Hotel in the United State by readers of USA Today’s 2019 10Best Readers’ Choice Travel Awards. Nominees for all categories are chosen by a panel of relevant experts and then readers had three weeks to vote for their favorite haunted Hotel. The rankings are:

1. The Mizpah Hotel
2. Fainting Goat Island Inn
3. 1886 Crescent Hotel and Spa
4. Bourbon Orleans Hotel
5. The Myrtles Plantation
6. Belhurst Castle
7. Hotel Sorrento
8. The Marshall House
9. The Sagamore Resort
10. The Stanley Hotel

Fainting Goat Island Inn, a five-room inn in a small town, beat out some heavy hitters, such as Belhurst Castle in Geneva, N.Y. that has three hotels on the property, and the Bourbon Orleans Hotel in New Orleans’ French Quarter. “It’s amazing to see our little inn recognized nationally and win second place against all of these other larger and well-known hotels,” said Marnie Streit, Owner of Fainting Goat Island Inn.

Fainting Goat Island Inn is not your average Inn. The Inn was originally built as a railroad hotel and the current owners have restored it from a private home back to its former glory as a place for travelers to stay overnight. It is a welcoming place, full of charm, and interesting characters, including fainting goats, as the name suggests. Other interesting “guests” that have made themselves comfortable at the Inn include two spectral ladies that have been spotted having tea and overheard having a conversation. A child sized stool has moved on its own and gumballs jump out of a candy machine on occasion, backing one intuitive guest’s claim that the most active spirit is a young boy. The guestbook is filled with praise for the Inn and peppered with stories of sightings and noises, with some guests reporting that they heard footsteps on a staircase that no longer exists. Guests who dare can ask the owners to tell their chilling story about a doll and a knife that was found in the ceiling. Eerie Voices Paranormal Society claims to have confirmed ghostly activity at recent visit.

Despite the ethereal guests, Fainting Goat Island Inn enjoys a reputation as wonderful place to stay. Situated along the Susquehanna River, the property has an expansive lawn that is filled with beautiful perennial gardens and quirky lawn decorations. Animal lovers will enjoy meeting their Pyrenees Mountain Dogs and Porkchop, the potbellied pig, and everyone likes to watch the goats frolic in their pen. The accommodations are comfortable and the décor is distinctive, taking you back in time with period furnishings and delightful touches such as the antique phonographs in each room.
