Fantastic fall colors, seasonal festivities, and eerie explorations coming up in October at Genesee Country Village & Museum

Sep 15th, 2021

Spooky season is nearly here! Visitors to Genesee Country Village & Museum will enjoy a full lineup of favorite fall events and activities, from the annual Agricultural Fair, to eerie explorations of the Historic Village during Spirits of the Past: A Walk in the Dark. With the 2021 regular season coming to a close on Monday, October 11, it’s the perfect time to plan a fall visit and enjoy everything the Museum has to offer this season.

Celebrate the bountiful Western NY harvest as the Museum shines in its finest fall colors during the annual Agricultural Fair on Saturday, October 2 and Sunday, October 3, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Visitors can explore livestock and cooking demonstrations, enjoy live musical entertainment, and browse for unique finds at the market in the tradition of the country fairs from days gone by. Shop smoked meats, honey, apples, cheeses, maple syrup, baked goods and other wares, watch a vintage base ball game, and peruse entries into the Blue Ribbon Competition ranging from giant produce to stunning floral arrangements to ornate baked goods. Support for the Agricultural Fair is provided by Market New York through I LOVE NY/New York State’s Division of Tourism as a part of the Regional Economic Development Council initiative, and Brach Machine, Inc. Capacity is limited, and tickets can be purchased in advance at https://www.gcv.org/events/ag-fair/.

The Museum will be open Thursdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. in October until the final day of the 2021 regular season, Monday, October 11. On the last day of the season visitors can enjoy an apple-themed adventure in the Historic Village: see an apple press in action, explore Historic Kitchens to experience foods being prepared using apples, learn about the history of the crop in NY State, and more. Plus, Monday, October 11 is the last Kids Free Day of the season! Kids 12 years of age and under will receive free admission to GCV&M. Bring the whole family out for a day of fall fun.

Halloween is coming to the Historic Village! Tour the dark winding paths and historic homes and hear terrifying tales of lore during Spirits of the Past: A Walk in the Dark on the evenings of Friday, October 15, Saturday, October 16, Sunday, October 17, Friday, October 22, Saturday, October 23, and Sunday, October 24. Brave groups of 25 at a time will be guided from the Toll House into the darkened Village, where they will experience eerie encounters, tour terrifying scenes, and glimpse ghouls lurking in the shadows. Food, drink, and festive fare will be available from 5:30 – 9 p.m. This is historically a sell-out event, tickets must be purchased in advance at: https://www.gcv.org/events/spirits-a-walk-in-the-dark/.

In the coming months, Museum visitors can look forward to winter events such as the Holiday Market / Preparing for Winter in the Historic Village on Saturday, November 20 and Sunday, November 21, as well as Yuletide in the Country Tours and Open Houses, beginning on Friday, December 3. Find all upcoming event listings and more information at www.gcv.org/events.
