Dec 11th, 2019

(12/11/2019) Penn Yan, NY – The Finger Lakes Tourism Alliance (FLTA) and partners of the Finger Lakes business community are proud to announce the first ever Finger Lakes Region Scholarship recipient,  Claire Rejman at the FLTA’s annual holiday party this past Tuesday, December 11th at Lakeside Country Club.

The 2019 Finger Lakes Regional Scholarship is presented as a tribute to Glenora Wine Cellar’s Co-owner, Gene Pierce for all that he has done for our tourism industry over the years. In Gene’s honor we are happy to announce that the 2019 Finger Lakes Regional Scholarship recipient is  Claire Rejman. Claire is a sophomore at Cornell University, majoring in Hotel Administration.

Reneta McCarthy, a senior lecturer at the Cornell School of Hotel Administration said “Claire immediately stood out as a passionate, motivated, and bright young lady who was ready to immerse herself fully in her education”.

As well as being a dedicated student, Claire worked for the Inns of Aurora and their letter said “Claire is a strong, competent young woman who will do great things in her life. Claire is proud of her roots in the Finger Lakes and is happy to share her excitement with our guests.”

Upon receiving her scholarship, Rejman was recognized by Alison Hunt from Congressman Reed’s office with a Congressional proclamation for her achievement.

The FLTA alongside Finger Lakes business owners understand the importance of dedicated leaders within the tourism and hospitality industry. The goal for this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to a second year student, majoring in Hospitality and Tourism and has worked to learn fundamental practices including professionalism, customer service, and a commitment to excellence in and out of the classroom. Tourism is a large economic driver and asset to the state and local community. Having ambassadors for the region is the key to success. Students in this field of study are essential to growth and continued enrichment of the Finger Lakes region.

Founded in 1919, Finger Lakes Tourism Alliance is recognized as one of the first regional destination marketing organizations in the United States. FLTA is an association of private-sector attractions, tourism-related businesses and county tourism offices working together to enhance and promote visitor businesses for the 9,000 square-mile Finger Lakes region of New York State.
