With the arrival of spring, Skaneateles’ First Friday art walk continues its “May to December Romance” of the arts.
First Friday, now in its seventh year, returns May 3 from 6 to 9 p.m. with art openings, wine tastings and entertainment throughout the village.
Participating shops will fly First Friday flags outside their establishments, and First Friday passports and maps will be available at all venues. Visitors who get their passports stamped at any three locations can redeem them that evening for one of the following: a free appetizer with purchase of an entrée at Joe’s Pasta Garage; a free glass of house wine or beer at the Sherwood Inn; or a free appetizer at AC’s Lakeside Restaurant on Otisco Lake (Rte. 174, Marietta). Other specials will be offered throughout the season.
“We invite everyone to join us and explore all that the village has to offer,” says Susan Dove, executive director of the Skaneateles Area Chamber of Commerce. “We have an exciting season planned—in June, we’ll be featuring Skaneateles student artwork at many locations.”
Art openings May 3 will be held at:
• Imagine, 38 E. Genesee St., which will host “HWS Printmaking Workshop,” an exhibition of prints by students and faculty at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, and a performance by the Usual Suspects.
• Skaneateles Artisans, 3 Fennell St. (under the Old Stone Mill), which will feature works by wood turner Dan Tracy in the exhibition “Turning Into Spring,” along with a wine tasting by Beak & Skiff.
• Gallery 54, 54 E. Genesee St., which will host “Fine Art Nature Photography by Tom Dwyer,” an exhibition of new landscapes and nature images by the Marietta photographer.
Other special events will be held at:
• Snake Oil Glassworks, 4251 Jordan Road, which will feature Phil Austin, crafting handblown glass bowls.
• Joe’s Pasta Garage, 28 Jordan St., which will feature abstract paintings by Ryan Dove of Skaneateles.
• Rhubarb Kitchen & Garden, 59 E. Genesee St., which will host a wine tasting by Anyela’s Vineyards and photography by Stacia Landsberg of Skaneateles.
• Creekside Books & Coffee, 35 Fennell St., where Kim Monroe will perform from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Also open late will be Fleur-de-lis Florist, Hobby House Toys, Roland’s, The Country Ewe and The Irish Store.
“At the end of the evening, cap off First Friday with a drink or a delicious dessert at one of our taverns or restaurants,” suggests Dove.
