Genesee Country Village & Museum Promises Plenty of Springtime Fun

May 17th, 2018

Mumford, May 16, 2018— It looks like spring is for real this time—finally a perfect opportunity for getting outside and enjoying it.

Genesee Country Village & Museum is hosting two special outdoor events to kick off the season: the 5K Race Through History on Saturday morning, May 19, and History on Tap, which will be held Friday evening, June 1.

The 5K, which starts at 8 am, sends runners and walkers along continually varying terrain, from wooded nature trails and open grasslands, to stone and dirt roads that wind through a picturesque 19th-century village,

Runners of all ages can lace up and dress up to participate in this one-of-a-kind 5K that begins with the firing of a 100 pound anvil, the only race in the world that starts with this kind of a bang! The race ends with best costume and best chip time prizes, photo ops with staff in historic attire, refreshments and a full day to enjoy the museum. .

Registration for the 5K is available on line. Cost is $30/$15 GCV&M members.

Another fun way for friends to enjoy the outdoors is History on Tap—a unique pairing of craft beer, local wines and local history. The historic village will be hopping from 5 to 9 pm featuring live music by The Crooked North, an all-acoustic bluegrass band, over 25 vendors from local brewers, vintners and cideries, access into some of the historic buildings, lawn games, food trucks and more.

This year the museum is offering FREE shuttle rides that depart from Radio Social, 20 Carlson Rd, Rochester, at 4:45 and 6 pm and leave the museum at 9 pm. Reservations, available on line, are required.

Admission to History on Tap is $25/$20 on line/$18 GCV&M members.  A $10 designated driver ticket is available at the door. Support provided by Market NY through I LOVE NY/New York State's Division of Tourism as a part of the Regional Economic Development Council awards.
